i often see the question, "why are so many atheists here?" with the explanation that if we don't believe in god we don't really have a right to have any input on matters of religion. so that got me thinking about things christians don't believe in, which brings me to my question.
why are so many christian's concerned about what goes on in a person's private life. if you don't believe in things such as euthenasia or homosexuality, why do you concern yourselves so much with people who do?

i never said anything about all christians being judgmental. read the question again. i said "so many christians", not all christians. if i had said all christians, that would be a generalization.

my question is not about what me being concerned with what christians think. you're free to think what you want. the question was more to take a stab at the whole "atheists: why are you here?" question. there is an idea trying to be spread around here that you have to believe in something in order to have a valid point in an argument. if anything, i'm saying christians should be allowed to argue their point, regardless if they believe in something or not.

is there any point in my original question that i said all christians? i used the phrase "so many christians" only because they are the only ones i notice in this country who are trying to get laws passed to prevent such things. and there are a lot of them. it's not a generalization if it's a fact. i never even said most christians. so where is the generalization?

I agree with you there. Christians want the US to be religiously not free. And for their particular sect to be the national faith. Thank god that will never happen. Imagine the civil war that would break out between the hateful Lutherans against the vengeful baptists.
Christians live in a double standard. they do as they want and tell others to live in a different way. I have gone into islam chats and seen christians going in there to cause troubles. Why should any christian go there. And yet they wonder why the muslims are so hatefilled. LOOK IN THE MIRROR CHRISTIANS!.
Look at all the ministers that have been caught violating the same ethics that they preach to us. It is a shame. That is why I am a solitary practioner. I will not have anyone tell me how to live my life.
I am going to see all the responces to this question. man you are going to get a lot of hate mail from the christians.
And speaking of that. Isn't it funny how loving and peaceful they proclaim themselves to be, yet look at their tactics and the comments they leave. So much hate in the christian heart.

I think the kind of Christians you're talking about are very misguided. I think you hit the nail on the head: they are too concerned about other people's business. I think they are usually lonely, unhappy, or just plain mean people that have found an outlet in fanaticism. By the way, ever notice that as a person's education increases their changes of being a Christian fascist decrease?

I think that often Christians believe it's their duty to change the world for the better (not a bad thing) but they go about doing it wrong. When they judge homosexuals or pro-choice people they are not really leading by example are they? If someone is truly a Christian they should allow people their own opinions and not try to force their beliefs on others. Spirituality is hard enough to figure out on your own without someone making you feel guilty for not believing what they believe. I can say this about Christians because I am one and don't agree with the tactics that many use.

I don't think its fair to put "all" Christians in the same boat. I am a Christian woman, and I see myself as an individual. Not all Christians are against homosexuals, or busy bodies about other peoples lives. I am not a homosexuals, but I do not want throw a parade for them. To each there own happiness is the way I see it. There are many types of groups in Christianity, and just because you have a bad experience with one, does not mean "all " are that way. I have befriended many types of people along my way, and I can appreciate them for there uniqueness, and not trying to change them.

It is human nature to want to help others. When someone believes something that is different than you (and yes, I'm being very general here) we try to fix "it". Realistically, it is in all areas - religion, relationships, etc.
The differences should be embraced because it is only when we challenge our own beliefs and comfort zones can we strengthen our faith.
How different would our world be with tolerance? And how tolerant are you when faced with something that infringes on your own comfort zone?
Disclaimer - NOT all Christians are like this, Not all atheists are like this, Not all humans are like this.

First, You sound like you have a brain, one full of question and A true believer of Christ would see this as an opportunity to share there faith.
have you ever had a cold, Someone gave you a tea that made you feel much better and then you tried to share it with someone that was also sick, knowing how much it helped you? How would you feel if they looked at you with disbelief and uncertainty? Maybe they were raised to believe that a "Natural" tea could not possibly have the ability to cure anything. I'm assuming you, like most, would want to do something to help them and would be a little sad that they are going to continue to be uncomfortable when you have something that can help them.
A true Christian would not take pathetic little stabs at ones way of life and proclaim them selfs as better simply because there Christians and there God is the Almighty.
You will know a Christian by his works and his life. I also am sickened when Christians do things against the teachings of Gods word, in the Bible.
your first question is a little confusing because you fist talk about the comment "Why are so many atheists here?" and include that Christians don't think that Atheists have a say in religion.
you imply that you are an atheist, either way, your life is precious and your views are a value in the world just as much as anyone else's.
There are a lot of reasons why we have more atheists today and people don't want to believe in a God. I'm assuming your an American. So many people today are trying to influence our ability to believe the way we want to believe. Taking God out of our schools and government buildings. So many are telling God to get out, I'm not surprised at all the killing and all going on today.
If I come across someone that is hurting in there heart, I know how many times my belief has helped me feel better. I would want to help them find that peace, not only because I'm a Christian but because I consider myself a caring person.
Ok! I know I've not really said much about your question but wanted to clear up a few things first so it would be easer to see were I'm coming from.
When I was younger I had a addiction to Pornography. I since then have been able to break that addiction. What really helped me was seeing what it has done in the lives of others. I talked to and read story's about how they lost there, good. jobs and family. Many addictions from pornography to drugs and sexual impurities cause this outcome.
Many of these survivors have told me that there belief in God gave or helped them get back on there feet. God gave them someone to be accountable for and gave them a focus to what they want most, there Family and life back.
Because of my own testimony, I believe it's good to have Someone, Stronger then myself, to focus on who's teachings promise a rich full way of life and way out of bondage.
people who have also lived through stuff like this want to help others and sometimes may get a little pushy. for some, I think there is no gray area when it comes to there beliefs and they either come on too strong or not at all.
Personally, I hope others can see me for who I am and if they happen to be looking for a better way of life or want to know what I do to have peace in my life, they can ask. Other then that, Someone that is happy or closed minded to other beliefs can only have there hearts soften by the Lord and I trust he will cross my path with those he has conditioned to hear my heart and words.
Phl 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Jhn 1:7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all [men] through him might believe.
Psa 19:8 The commandments of the LORD are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are clear, giving insight to life.

For the same reason you are concerned with what Christians think. Your asking a question about us like we ask questions about you. It isn't that we think an atheist doesn't have a right to an opinion on religion but you have to admit that they usually just say something like "there is no god" or something irrelevant to the question being asked. Obviously if someone asks a religious question, that type of answer is annoying. I am a Christian and I don't concern myself with euthenasia or homosexuality. Everyone has to answer for themselves. I concern myself with me and my family. To each his own.

I think you've got it a little mixed up. Speaking for myself, a Christian, but not all Christians. Homosexuals are going to be but marriage is a Christian/Jewish doctrine, and is considered Holy in both religions.
So I do not want what I consider Holy, to be tainted by what is unholy. Just call it a civil union, give them equal rights as a marriage, and keep them the heck out of the church with their unholy union. If you are offended by that ask yourself why you care so much what others think of you or what you practice.
That's just one example, mostly we are concerned when things really do affect us. We know people are going to live in sin and make their own choices, but it's very important if it affects our own lives.

It's normally due to the fact of others attempting to impose acceptance of those lifestyles and ideas upon us.
Euthenasia for example involves the elimination of people who are deemed to be less worthy of survival. Some individuals make themselves the arbiters of what the "quality of life" should be. Those deemed to be not "perfect" enough or "normal" enough are eliminated.
Jesus teaches...."Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy."
I admit that perhaps many times there are "well meaning" Christians who are too quick to condemn and not displaying enough mercy.
But we do believe that the Bible is the ultimate standard of right and wrong. The Bible applied with Mercy is the greatest gift this world has ever recieved.
In Islamic Republics, Homosexuals are executed along with Christians, Jews, any one who is not compliant with Islam.
Christians seek to persuade with references to the Word of God, to recieve Eternal Life....which requires obediance to the Word of God.
We reject murder and the oppression of the helpless and unable to defend themselves....thus the swerve back into Euthenasia.
Christians are not perfect, just forgiven and trying to serve God and not be guilty of "playing games" or even "playing church".

don't pool us all together; God gave a gift to mankind; to choose him or not; it is a gift that you spend or squander as you may; beware of bible beating people b/c God doesn't want you to be beat into submission but rather to exercise your choice, your gift; we are not suppose to judge; we are here to live a good life by example ; to show love and respect for all; if you look to the life of Jesus, he welcomed scorned people outside of the norm if they truly wanted to sit at the table with God; we do believe that only God created life and therefore he and he alone calls the soul back home no matter what is going on; sometimes, you have to endure and suffer to earn your wings so of speak; everyone has the right to connect to other humans and inquire of a higher being; sometimes people are always looking to discredit and therefore they can't see the little miracles in their life; if you really want to know ; ask God to show you; you come into your life; no time lines; b/c God works in his time and trust ; you will find out in that way by being truly open ; watch out you will be amazed; trust and faith isn't easy but you really want to know ; open yourself up and you will find the true answer to your question.
