Okay, about how much cheaper are sapphires compared to diamonds? I know it depends on the 4 C's and all that stuff, but just give me a rough estimate. I am thinking of having my wedding band blue sapphires instead of diamonds. My engagement ring is small and I feel as if a diamond wedding band will take away from it. And I don't want a plain band. Not to mention we are on more of a budget and sapphires are cheaper, I just don't know how much cheaper.

Both my wedding band and engagement ring contain sapphires, I love them and they were far cheaper then full diamonds. Check them out:

White Sapphire Compared To Diamond

Because diamonds are very mainstream you will probably find a small channel set band of diamonds much less expensive than sapphires. Good sapphires (the royal blue ones) will run almost as much as a diamond. The very inexpensivce sapphires will end up looking black and then I would just get a band with black diamonds which are incredibly inexpensive. The one thing to consider is that if you decide on a dark color like blue or black or even red the ring will look unbalanced with only one, 2 bands, one on each side will create a much more balanced look. There are many websites that you can find online that sell colored bands inexpensively. Also I really don't think that a diamond band will take away from your engagement ring as long as the carat weight of the band is small. Try a .25ct or .33ct band. They will add a small glimmer but not overtake the ring. try these websites for ideas:

It all depends on the sapphire and it depends on the diamond!

Sapphires are so much more fun than diamonds. Sapphires come in every color imaginable. Sapphires also come with individual "personalities". I have on that sparkles only in winter sunlight. The sun's rays hit it a certain way and it comes to life. This is very nice and reassuring during the gloomy winter months.

Diamonds have been so over hyped, over sold, and can be pretty boring. Sure a good one has fires inside, but unless you're a gemologist and own an exceptionally well cut stone without too many imperfections, they pretty much look the same.

Not so with sapphires. Green, yellow, pink, pink-orange, red (Rubies are simply red sapphires), all sorts of shades of blue, and even white.

I've even seen a sapphire bracelet with stones of every color of the spectrum in one piece. Wow!

Don't go for what is cheaper, go for what is more dramatic and unique!

Yes diamonds hands down would be a lot more expensive than sapphires, check out the Ebay store:Gemstoneking for a wholesale price on gems. We deal with wholesale diamonds,Ebay store:diamondgenius, and have some affordable wedding band sets ranging from $1500-$2000. Have you ever considered clarity enhanced diamonds instead of sapphire diamonds? This could be another option for you.I would defifnitelty suggest staying away from retail stores, the mark up is 3x on the wholesale price, shop online and you can buy a little above cost.

Please feel free to contact me should you have any other questions.

Best of Luck!

I think sapphires will be considerably more affordable than diamonds. The diamond industry has artificially inflated the cost of diamonds by mucking around with the public perception of supply and demand. Diamonds just aren't as rare and precious as the industry would have you believe, which is why lots of analysts consider them grossly overpriced. (Diamonds weren't the wedding tradition until the early 1900's - clever marketing by DeBeers).

Sapphires are beautiful and make lovely wedding rings. My friend has a platinum and sapphire ring that is absolutely gorgeous. I believe it is about half the cost of a comparably-sized and set diamond.

Go for it.

Sapphires are substantially less expensive than high quality diamonds. If you would be happy with Sapphires, that's what you should get. But remember, you will be wearing this ring for the rest of your life, and it should be what you want. When you are looking at small stones to fit in a band, the quality is much less important for the look, perhaps you can find one of each that you can afford, then choose the one that looks best with your engagement ring.

My engagement ring is a Blue Sapphire! So needless to say I think it's a wonderful idea :) It is a heart-shaped sapphire with filigree and diamond chips around it, I absolutely LOVE it and it was FAR less expensive than a diamond solitaire. I don't at all mind that, it's not a contest to me. Dark blue is my favorite color and this ring suits me so much more than the traditional engagement ring, in fact I consider the regular ring quite ordinary and I love having such a unique ring. Go for it, you'll be very happy and so will your pocketbook!!!

Maybe you could find a band with both diamonds and sapphires. That's what I'm trying to do, but it's not easy in yellow gold. I'm sorry, I don't know prices, but sapphires are definitely cheaper than diamonds, so it could be a good middle of the road option.

If you like the sapphires that is great, then go for them, I personally don't and like to stick to tradition, which is diamonds.. you can get a band with diamond chips in it, and it will not over power your engagement ring.. and would be a nice match to the engagement ring, and look more like a set than the sapphires would.. good luck..
