Okay, last winter the in-laws let my husband and I borrow their 1991 Caprice Classic while my truck was being fixed. It was just an extra car that they had...they have a lot of cars. Anyway, I was driving it and went across an icy bridge. It went out of control, and I totaled it. Needless to say, I have felt completely horrible about it ever since. They reassure me that it was okay, and that accidents happen, but I still feel like crap because of it. I'm wanting to buy them another car to replace the Caprice...but I don't know what kind I should go for. They liked the Caprice, because it was so big and compfortable. I want to get them another something like that...maybe even another Caprice. What kind of big, comfy cars do you think that I should consider?

Well I know that they spent a lot of money trying to fix the Caprice and stuff...it had a lot of problems. I was wanting to kinda look for a car that will have less mechanical problems and will be in better condition...and I want it to be a surprise for my father in law's birthday, which is in May. So, I've still got a few months to find one.

I agree with the cash thing. Offer them the KBB value for the car. If they refuse, make one last apology for the car and move on. Like they already told you, accidents do happen.

If you insist on replacing the car buy them another car just like the one you wrecked.

Better than that, why not just give them cash and let them go buy a car they want. Not one you think they might want.
