NO Why should it. I know that there is a God and I trust in Him and He says not to fear that He is with me and to cast all my cares on Him. So no the idea doesn't scare much less terrify me.
Athiest are fools, God said that the fool has said in his heart There Is No God.

I'll go with the Reverend, his personal beliefs should not come into play in a classroom.
Did he just say "I'm an atheist"? What was the context, i.e. was it related to what the class was talking about?
Why does atheism terrify you? I'd think it most likely would from the perspective that most Christians have a very distorted view of what and who atheists are. I would get the facts about atheists from an objective viewpoint.

You don't say why you were shocked and scared but it sounds as if you need to mix with atheists a lot more. If you can't find any in real life, try one of the numerous atheist forums on the web.

Athiests arent really people to be afraid of they are normal people, unless you want to bring up a heated debate on why they should believe in god they arent going to hate you because of your religion. Athiests are no more dangerous then people who have religion...Not directing it at any particular religion. Also add to a point said before, you dont have to be religious to believe in god i know a few people that believe in god but choose not to be in a religion.

Atheists don't scare me. they seem to be nice people. And as long as you show them respect they will give you respect. Christians could learn a lot from atheists in how to treat other people. Being a Pagan, I have had constant run in with christians, whereas Atheists just leave me alone.

No. Why would it scare you? It is the absents of a religious belief. We do not believe in a God or a Devil. No higher power to answer to for the goods and evils in our lives. No predetermined existence and nowhere to "go" after death.

Just sounds like a scary dude.
If a man shouted across a room "I'm a MILKMAN", I'd probably pee my pants waiting for the gun to appear...
And no, the idea of milk doesn't terrify me...
What if you heard "GOD IS GREAT!"....?

Well, why did he shout it? Was it to make a point? What was that point?
In answer to your question, no, it certainly doesn't frighten me at all. I believe in a God, but I know there is no proof of that and that all of my feelings that God exists are limited to ME. Not everyone has those same feelings, and who am I to determine that my gut instincts are ore valid than anyone elses?

What an odd thing to shout. Unless you mongoloids were screaming at him to teach you the historical fiction in the bible rather than what actually occurred.

Was it really the words, or the shock that scared you?
Atheism is not scary. It is calming.
