Well, there is only one absolute in genealogy. People present at the birth of a child - AND WATCHING - know who is the mother of that child. That's it. The only absolute certainty in genealogy. [though arguably with the introduction of surogate mothers, even this isn't assured anymore]. But once it is reported, it losses certainty. One other thing that could be certain, a mother might be absolutely certain who the father of her child is. Though her statements about that parentage is not absolute.

That said, there are a number of ways (some presented in above answers) that are pretty solid. But even a DNA test is only 99.993% certain when given to direct single generation blood relatives. What this means is that if you gave this DNA test to 10,000 people, 7 would turn up incorrect results. Pretty darn solid - unless you are one of the 7. So can you ever know with 100% certainty? No. Can you know in all reasonable likelihood? Absolutely.

First thing that you have to do is count the month when the child was born to when the child was concieved. If you are in a relationship with the mother and having active sex around that time then its a possibility that its yours.

If you know for sure you didnt have any sexual relationship at the time the child was concieved then you are not the pop.

To be really accurate, go take a DNA test.

If you are male then you could and should get DNA testing done if there is any doubt in your mind as to whether or not you are the childs biological dad.

Blood tests. You only need blood from the child and yourself. Momma doesn't have to know.

Blood tests from you, momma and baby. If there's doubt about who daddy is, that mean mommy was screwing just about any guy that came along.
