why is it that canadians have such a great reputation around the world and the americans don't?
you would think that a christian nation would be known as what canada is: kind, polite, will help out allies in wars but won't start them, generous etc
why isn't your christian nation known for these things while an non christian nation is?

for those of you who think i'm saying canada is better than the US, you're wrong. canadians can travel virtually anywhere in the world and be treated with respect, but americans can't say that. i know you americans love your country as much as i love mine, and you should. my point was adressing the negative reputation of a "christian" nation vs the positive reputation of a non christian nation

Because the American Chritians are rather bloodthirsty and manipulative. Lately the Dalai Lama has allied himself with Bush, which itself lowers the popularity of the Lama and the Tibetans. (You know bad draws bad, and the dalai would possebly love an american war with China)
The US has many unfortunate actions behind, which does that the world no longer trust them. The US behaves as if it was in the middle of a hollywood movie, not really believing that american people actually can die.
Oh! There are many other things as well, but the keyword here is honesty.
The US is simply regarded as an uttely dishonest and unpredictable nation.

Well the US isn't a Christian nation, even in the hypothetical. Its also a strongly capitalistic, individualistic society. It is a nation with poor public public transportation and city planning and thus heavily dependent on vehicles, thus isolating one another from each other. It is also a nation that is overworked and hasn't gotten a pay raise since the 70's. It is also a nation with only two weeks vacation and not enough money to see what is outside ones own borders. It is also a nation where a few mega corporations control the airwaves and spit out propaganda in defense of horrible policies promoted by Republicans. It is a nation where wealth is everything and those that don't succeed get crushed in the process. It is also a nation where we are taught that guns and violence can solve any situation, and only sex is considered offensive.
Anyway, there are definitely a few mitigating circumstances that make Americans what they are today and add up to how others end up seeing us.

You make a lot of presumptuous statements.
On what basis do you say that Canada has a better reputation? I wonder what the indigenous population of Canada would say about that.
How would you know what the rest of the world thinks? Do you know that there are certain people around the world who hate Canada simply because it is a Western country?
How can you speak on behalf of all Canadians (as if the religious beliefs of all Canadians would be the same as yours)?

Friend, I am a United States citizen, & I have friends that lives in Canada, We have a couple of people from Canada that married someone in our church & now they live in the USA, But it looks as if someone upset you, & your feelings got hurt, now let's look closely At your arguement, You say that Canada has a good reputation around this earth, So does The USA. You claim that Canada helps out their allies in time of war, There is many countries that helps the USA in time of war, But if You claim your country is better then the USA, Where is Canada at when the United States goes to war, We have about 160,000 Military men & women in Iraq, I think Canada has only a few thousands, Why not send another 50,000 to Iraq to help the USA Many nation looked down on the USA because of this war in Iraq, Hey, we were attacked first, By the way, how many Canadians came to New York to help out, How much money did Canada send to the USA to help Us financially when 9/11 happened, How many Canadians help out the USA when Hurricane Katrina hit us. Why is it when a national disaster hits another country, who is the first Country to send help either financially or materally help to these other nations, Why does the world Cry for help from the USA when their country is hit with a disaster, Why don't they first call on Canada, Yes why don't they, But when the USA is hit by a national disaster or we are attack, Why do our allies stick their tail between their legs & run & hesitate to help the USA, So the next time you have a nationl disaster then don't call on the USA for help, the same with other countries, Remember we don't have a good reputation around this world according to you, Therefore when I see any country in need of help, then shouldn't I notify our Government that we don't have a good reputation, & Canada does so get the help from Canada. I consider Canada as a Good Friend allied to the USA, I was in Canada once, But now since we don't have a good reputation & canada does, then maybe I should never visit Canada again, & then why not keep all the people from Canada on you side of the border. Now who does the world first look to for help in time of disaster or like for instance when Iraq invaded Kuwait, how many Canada soildiers help us to run Iraq back over to their border. Why do the world cry to us for help & when in turn if we need help then we wonder who really is our friends, Because you can't find any that is suppose to be our allies willing to help US.

You are from Canada? It is a nice place.
Have you looked around much at the U.S. society lately? It most certainly does not reflect Christian beliefs or morals.
We may have started off as a country that was predominantly Christian in faith and values, but we are not that way now.

"The U.S Treaty with Tripoli 1796" this document was signed by many of the founding fathers including John Adams & George Washington our first President.
Article 11 :. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen[Muslims]; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan[Islamic] nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.
Adams signed the Treaty of Tripoli (June 7, 1797). Article 11 states:
"The government of the United States is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion."
From Jefferson's biography:
"...an amendment was proposed by inserting the words, 'Jesus Christ...the holy author of our religion,' which was rejected-----'By a great majority in proof that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and the Mohammedan, the Hindoo and the Infidel of every denomination.'"
"Christianity...[has become] the most perverted system that ever shone on man....Rogueries, absurdities and untruths were perpetrated upon the teachings of Jesus by a large band of dupes and imposters led by Paul, the first great corrupter of the teaching of Jesus." --- Thomas Jefferson
"Religion and government will both exist in greater purity, the less they are mixed together." -- James Madison

Catholics are the unique Christians. the 1st church, which Christ began became the Catholic church. For the 1st thousand years, there became basically one Christian Church. In 1054, it split into 2 branches, the eastern Orthodox Catholic Church and the Roman Catholic Church. there have been purely 2 Christian branches for yet another 500 years. In 1518, Martin Luther began a third branch, Protestantism. The third branch splintered into many denominations. you're in all likelihood recognizing that Catholics are actually not Protestants. the unique Christian Church remains Catholic. The Amish is between the various Protestant denominations. Jehovah Witnesses are actually not a Protestant denomination yet an offshoot of Christianity because of the fact they suspect Jesus is the angel Michael and not the Son of God.
