fake ploy to sell timeshares?
They tell you to come in the mall to pick up your prize. when there really is no prize at all.
They just want you to look at their 15 min sales pitch, give you refreshments and pitch a timeshare sale to you.
When a guy called me to tell me I won, and i asked it was for timeshares...he pretended it wasnt...then i was asking too much details..and he hung up on me. I hate that sh*T.

the letters make for good fire starter
as for the phone calls, well, some times i start to get personal with them, asking who they are, where they are, and because they usually woke me up, i would ask them to tell me a bed time story...i usually work nights and sleep days,
they would get tired of me and hang up :)

Just last week someone called to tell me that I entered a contest. I never enter anything, so I explained that. I kindly mentioned that I realize that I didn't REALLY win anything, so can you PLEASE take me off the mailing list.

He politely said, "yes sir".

The call ended and now I only have 999 more telemarketers to go.
