started on 20 mg of Celexa to treat my depression and it worked a little for the beginning of the first day. After three weeks I went to the doctor and he changed me to 30 mg Cymbalta. It worked incredibly well for the first two days, and then the effects started vanishing. Now I’m on the fourth day of taking it and feel as bad as ever. What should I do now? Why are the effects going away after the first couple days?
(I really doubt that it is a placebo effect because I felt significantly better with the second drug for a longer while) and I have been going to talk therapy aswell

Try not to think about the Cymbalta. You will not notice the day to day changes from these kind of medications.
The reason you might have felt better is because something happened in your day to day life that made you experience a fleeting feeling of pleasure. You did not remember what it was that happened so you assumed it was the Cymbalta.
You started feeling lousy again because you are depressed.
It will not go away at a speed that you will notice.
You are experiencing the ups and downs from your day to day reactions to things. When we feel good we want to attribute this to medication because it gives us something tangible outside of ourselves to hold onto hope. When we feel down we want to think the medications are not working because it is an easy fix to a difficult problem. I hope you eventually feel better over the long haul. Best Wishes

The first day taking an anti-depressant will not change or alter your mood.... it takes a while for these medications to kick in. (4-6 weeks in some instances). Please give it time.

Apparently, your doctor didn't tell you about this.

And i'd also like to say that, even when we are on anti-depressants, we can still suffer with bouts of depression from time to time.

You can do a Yahoo search for any medication to see what side effects are, and other information. (Not everyone has the same side-effects).

I'm glad you are in talk therapy. Sometimes it's a good idea to ask questions, write down a list of your concerns and issues to take with you.

I wish you all the best, that's for sure.
