Whilst this phenomenon exists is many countries, it seems to me, reading posts like this on YA, that the USA has a rather large contingent of misguided people terrified of Muslims. Why? Putting aside the attack on 9/11, the Muslim faith has not declared war on the USA - it is only some of it's members who wish for harm to the USA. Proportion is the key here - McCarthyism was rife 30/40 years ago because of the cold war, but the behaviour of US citizens towards 'reds under the bed' was deplorable and unjustified. Looking back now, I'm sure many of those people involved in the persecution of perfectly innocent citizens feel quite ashamed of themselves. I'm guessing in a few years from now the next generation will be horrified at the treatment meted out to people for merely following a different faith to their own.

It's a sad thing for sure.
I'm in Canada and we don't experience that, but it certainly seems to be the case in a lot of circumstances down south of here.
One thing I like to pass on is this.
Just because someone doesn't share your religion, it doesn't mean that person is bad AND
just because someone does share your religion, it doesn't mean that person is good.
It certainly doesn't help that 'the leader of the free world' (love that joke by the way) would rather enter into a country of muslims that don't have WMD, over a country that isn't muslim that admittedly does have WMD.
Of course the irony here is that said country (US) is the world leader in WMD
edit: and to Tony S, yes, it's true that there is a small part of the islamic religion that are terrorists, but that goes for all religions. If you think you can find a religion that doesn't have any of their members being terrorists, then you will be spending your life searching for that answer.
of course, no other religion is responsible for as many deaths as the Christian faith. Islam is still 'fairly' new and would have to do a lot to catch up to Christianity.

Stereo-types. And for this, I'm sorry. I saw an episode of Tyra on this. A black woman judged a muslim woman based on her looks. Tyra put the black women in muslim clothing and made the two go to the airport. The woman learned a good lesson. To not judge people based on appearance. If my apology would help, I'm sorry. Its very difficult in today's day and age. I try to give everyone who might be judged a shy smile...something of an unspoken token of encouragement. Sometimes I wonder though, is this accepted as encouragement, or just categorized as more stereotyping? I think our culture needs to lighten up a bit.

It is interesting that a wave of abnormality has been consciously brainwashed into the populaces minds. The propaganda post 9/11 was a 'justified' means of moral attack by the propagating artist of the USA hierarchy. Personally, it was just another way to gain general support within the country and on an international scale. Notice though, immediately afterward (9/11) a large contigent of middle eastern peoples were walking around fearfully. I remember that. I am not muslim, but I would think that the people who lived here in Canada were afraid of what could happen to them. Remember the Japanese and Germans during WWII. The concentration camps of NA wouldn't forget. What if that was a tactic that was the operation in effect. Well, in order for justification to take place a state of war needs to be in effect and people of the country need to fear. Then if they fear it is the responsibility of that government to make them feel safe. Thus, not coming out and denouncing all Muslim peoples, the country turns the eyes on terrorist factions who are anti-american. Those enemies are our worst nightmare. This is their propaganda. Meanwhile, people make the connection: 9/11 destruction by muslim terrorists who were 'al quida' = war on terrorism = termed axis of evil (what a term!) = war on middle east = people who live in the middle east = middle eastern peoples = muslim majority. Is it propaganda??? In my eyes it is because they (the government) are in control of information. Hence, they leak out info according to a wanted and desired effect. The support of the war. Because if they didn't have support from the people you would soon have major protests (this did happen anyway but did you notice how much coverage it got compared to the war coverage??? Interesting hey?). I am not a proponent for war. I am not a proponent for starting a false war and spreading lies of weapons of mass distruction (especially from a country that has them discussing the idea of a country that MIGHT have them and turn out not to have them - not to mention since this is the only country in history ever to nuke any other country.) for the sake of stealing oil leagally on the international scale.
This, of course, is just my opinion. The people who are hurt are the muslim people. The result and casualties of war.

It's the media showing only the negative examples of Muslims causing people to think that Muslims are all bad.
Muslims are humans just like others with negative and positive sides but the media tends to show only the worst of them(US) Coz this is what sells and people (at least most of them )believe every thing they see or read in the media coz this is easier than trying to reach the truth themselves .

I just get a bit circumspect because of these reasons:
1) When they are about to strike, they want to appear as anyone else. The one thing they tend to have in common is that the are Muslims.
2) There are not only a few. Entire nations have the US marked as an enemy.
3) The Muslims tend to be more concerned with defending themselves from inquiry than stopping those Muslims who attack people physically.
4) There are many Muslims who want to attack us even more than they have, and they are mixed in Muslim society.
5) We've been attacked by them, so please excuse our caution.
If any of this that I have said is unfair, let me know.

No you cant judge them like that and you shouldn't.
However.
As I am sure you know, a relatively small minority of Muslims are very much against western culture and will go out of their way to show us just how much... I don't think I need to cite examples here...
It is because of this very vocal and rather violent minority that people are getting upset.
Some Western countries, in an attempt to be equal and Politically correct are going to far, which is also creating tension.

Because people see one thing that went wrong and automatically think that all Muslims are just like it which is not true at all!
Pay no mind to all the ignorant people who don't know what the hell they are talking about and go meet the man you are falling in love with!
I wish you nothing but luck!

That's not accurate. I don't. I consider Muslim's no better nor worse than myself. We don't choose where or to whom we are born, we simply make the best of the life we are provided with. It is unfortunate that a very small percentage of a religious group can radicalise and cause such unfounded fear.
If you are muslim and experiencing rejection by those who have no right to judge, then I apologise to you for my fellow man for allowing fear to dictate his humanity by treating you in this manner.

Thank you it is nice to know that there are people like you out there. Unfortunately since 911 especially things have changed and like everyone else I cried all day and many days after because of this tragedy. We paid our respects at the site and gave our prayers for all that suffered on that day. I wish people who speak out against would actually meet the normal Muslim who lives in this world, and educate themselves because they would find that we eat, sleep, cook, work and just like you may go to church on Sunday we stand up in front of Allah at every prayer and ask him to forgive for our sins and to guide us.
