I think some Christians take things like this too far -- not letting their kids read fantasy novels, or Harry Potter, or Trick-or-Treating, or watching mainstream movies or listening to mainstream music. Isolating yourself from the culture does not do you, your children, or your religion any good. If anything, they may grow up resenting you, and resenting your religion, which they have come to perceive as nothing more than a list of "Thou Shall Nots."
As others have already said, they are only idols if they are used as idols. Faith is a wonderful thing, but keep a clear head about it. There is a fine line between faith and fanaticism.

The key word in your question is ornament. There is no harm to any ones religion when our children go trick or treating, cut out Valentines or have Fairy's decorating their room or garden.
What is the harm if your little girls played in the backyard and made believe that their fairy's were real. Would you hide all trucks from your son's because they made believe they were real? Children need to explore and imagine. It entices them to learn and ultimately do better in school. It is just a toy, just a book, just enjoying and learning.
Your Fairy's are now pretty garden decorations and when your girls see them they probably smile thinking how silly they were with the stories they created for themselves.
To have those Fairy's to play with made you a good parent and doesn't interfere with your religion.
My Reverends son comes over and plays Thomas the Train with my 3 yr old, trains with faces and personality's. They are just being children.

well anything that is put in place before God is an idol,, in and of themselves ornaments are no concern,, bu what is important here is the root of the ornament.
fairies and interests in fairies are rooted in paganism and pagan worship and originated from the heart of witchcraft,, although they are harmless figures, they represent something harmful spiritually, this does not mean you should destroy them, but i probably would, simply because your conscience is in conflict with them.
But i would not make a fuss about it,or go and tell all your Christian friends, as you will get mixed responses. just get rid of them and move on to appease your conscience. I personally dislike fairy's and gnomes, not necessarily because of some spiritual reason, but they are just creepy.

Idolatry is anything that takes the place of God in your life.
Garden ornaments hardly qualify.
Read "the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe" by C.S.Lewis and see how he writes about fairies and witches in a religious allegory. Just follow Jesus and keep your eyes on Him.

Presumably you don't worship these figures, therefore they are not idols. The definition of "idol" is something or someone you WORSHIP in place of God. This is why there are no idols in Catholic Churches, even though there may be numerous statues.

They are only idols if used as such and are worshipped, people really take this too far i think and need to use more wisdom and common sense.

Maybe. But Money is the biggest of them all. They even put God on it in their ignorance.
They bow to it, work for it, slave for it, steal and kill for it. Sounds like a god to me.
