I stopped giving my dog rawhide bones when I found out they can block their digestive system and give them problems; I don't know about pig ears, you may want to look into how safe and healthy they are for your dog before giving them to your pup. My substitute for rawhides is dental bones. They are big enough and tough enough it takes my dog a few minutes to get through it, she can digest it fine and it helps keep her teeth clean. Oh, did I mention she is NUTS about them? They smell like bacon so I can understand.

Buy him a good hard rubber toy or a Bone made by the Nylabone company, they need to chew. Chewing helps the baby teeth fall out and help cut in the new adult teeth.
I do not recomend giving bones to any dogs unless they are a large breed and take their time when chewing. Then only hard Beef bones from the shank or knuckle.
Pig ears- ok now just watch and make sure he dosent have big pieces break away. Always wash your hands , pig ears can contain Salamonela Bacteria which can make you ill. They can cause loose stools so watch just encase. It will be potty time!
Wait till at least 6 months, the dog will have his adult teeth.

I wouldn't give a puppy or an adult dog bones at all, In the line of work that I do we see alot of dogs that need to be operated on because splinters of bones have pierced through the stomach lining or intestines and caused great problems, Stick to the soft chews there alot more safer, If you want flavored bones try the Nylabone chews they come in Chicken or Chocolate.

I would urge you to offer your puppy Nylabone or Kong -type toys instead.
Bones - even hard bones like beef bones - splinter and can pierce a dog's stomach - often with fatal results. And some animal product based toys can upset his stomach - causing diarrhea and vomiting.
Also - and I learned this the hard way - Puppy doesn't know the difference between a $1 rawhide chew and your $500 designer shoes - it's all leather to him.
You can give the toys now - BTW

You can give them to him now. However, don't ever give a dog a cooked chicken leg bone or other cooked bone that could splinter and injure your pup. You can find prepared real bones in the pet supply store, or the nylon chews. Just be sure it's large enough that it can't become lodged in his mouth or throat if he were to try to swallow it.
I'm personally not a big fan of pig's ears, but again, if he's old enough to chew anything, he could also chew those.

Rawhides are bad. The rawhide material swells in there stomachs. I have also learned recently that pig ears are preserved in formaldahyde. As soon as I heard that, pig ears were out too. There are many digestable bone-type subsitutes. A lot of pet stores actually have a section labeled "Digestable Treats." If your puppy is a chewer there is a type of "almost indestructable" chew toy out there. I got one for my puppy and the toy is going on one month now and is till in tact. ;o)

I personally suggest a Kong toy or Nylabone or Dentabone or something like that. They're usually tough(er), but they won't hurt your dog like some other bones might. You can find all sorts of different options at your pet store - I know PetSmart has a lot of varieties, and if you go in and ask an associate (bring your dog with you, we love to play with doggies at work!) what would be the best, they'll be able to help you! Good luck :)

You can give him bones and pigs ears now. NEVER give him cooked bones. My dogs like pig ears but Love bully sticks. Bully sticks lasts much longer than pig ears.
