According to Associated Press, "Commanders in Iraq have decided to begin the drawdown of U.S. forces in volatile Diyala province." The article goes on to say that troops from a nearby, semi-peaceful, province will spread out to unclude the Diyala province.

Are they trying to screw this up so the American public will once again support the war? That's the only reason I can think of that troop withdrawl would begin in someplace "volitile."

Does someone know why this is a good idea?

the us military and government want the iraq police force to start taking a more active role in the safe guarding of iraq and with our troops pulling back it's going to force the iraq parliament to get off their butts, stop relying on the us military and take care of themselves...our troops are to few and are spread to thin...it's time that iraqi people start taking a more active role in their own safety....

Man, all the complaining about not getting the troops out and then people complain when troop reductions begin. The idea is to have the Stryker Brigade cover the area and have the Iraqi army take the lead in protecting and fighting in that province.

Remember, this is the Associated Press talking. They are probably using the word "volatile" just to elicit such a response as they have from you. The AP has done everything they can for the past 4 years to put as bad a spin as possible on the Iraq situation.

Drawdown of forces in a volatile province. That's what I used to do as a kid after knocking on some random strangers door.

There isn't a real drawdown. If one subtracts 10,000 U.S. troops and adds 20,000 Iraqi troops, the area would actually be gaining troops even if the quality was decreasing.
