She is mildly retarded but well enough as she lives on her own in her own apt. She is a good person and I take her sometimes to the grocery store and walmart as she doesn't like to drive in busier areas, we are rural. Her car is very unreliable and probably won't pass the next inspection so taking her in her car is out.
I have to word this in a way that she doesn't get hurt.
She simply is stinking up my car and it's either I don't bother with her or I tell her and she will clean up -hopefully.

The next time you get ready to take her to town, call her up a couple of hours before you're ready and tell her to get her shower and clean clothes on and you'll be there to get her shortly.
While you're in Walmart show her the personal hygiene products YOU use and ask if she's ever tried them. If she says no, tell her she should as she would probably like them.
Buy a fashion magazine while you're out and sit down and have a soda or cup of coffee with her and discuss the new fragrances and hygiene products in the magazine.
With the holidays coming up, Walmart should have all their little gift sets on display. Buy one for her or make your own little gift basket with purchases from the dollar store and give her a teasing smile and tell her you expect her to use these things when you're around.
Since she's mildly retarded, she may need a little gentle reminding occasionally to clean herself properly or she may have never been taught properly in the first place. You are in the perfect position to guide her gently since you are with her when she's shopping.

Are you both female? If so, then tell her that you are going to help her buy some things that she needs at Walmart. Take her to the soap section. You may have to just eventually give her the ultimatum. Since she is retarded, perhaps she'll really be ok with the help and suggestions; unlike normal women. If he doesn't clean up...and won't, then you did your best and move on to someone else whom you may help. Also, an hour or so before picking her up, and tell her that, "It's time for your shower LULU MAE" I'll be there in an hour. Good luck.

Just tell her that she has a hygene problem and she needs to put it right. You don't need to go for the throat here, just be as polite as you can about it and she probably won't take it the wrong way. That's all you need to say.

It is only a true friend who will tell her things that will improve her. She needs to know how to keep herself clean and sweet smelling. buy her a deodorant soap and deoderant as a gift and tell her you use it to always smell good and you want her to be the same as you.

I would buy her some nice soft smelling colgne and tell her people like it if you smell nice BUT not TOO much, She might wear to much of it..
