i'm at riley right now...alot of people here paint their housing walls..you just have to make sure you paint them back before you leave...at least you can in the old housing unit...picerne is building about 500 new housing..the first phase should be done by next year
also the housing wait list is about 1yr now if not longer...depending on how many bedrooms you need and rank....
if you have any other questions about riley feel free to contact me...
here is the riley picerne housing website...

I just left Ft. Riley and although I lived off post I know a lot of the regs. Most military housing will say you have to keep them subdued but they will also tell you that you can paint any color you want AS LONG as before you move you paint them white again. If you don't they will charge you an arm and a leg to repaint when you can do it for cheaper yourself. Good luck getting a hold of housing though. I would just plan on having to paint 2 times....on to get in and one to get out!

Generally speaking, you can paint your walls in base housing but you will have to paint them back again to the basic color they were when you moved in. Keep in mind with bright colors, that may mean using primer first or several coats. You may be entitled to get a can of base approved paint each year you are in housing (depends on the base) and many people will get it and save it up for when they move out and need to paint, but again with bright colors you will most likely end up having to get more than that and that means you will be paying for the cost for that base approved color yourself. It can be a lot of work to paint back, especially if you are trying to pack out at the same time.

I would have to tell you I have been in 15 years and never had a problem painting our walls. Usually as long as you paint the walls back the same color of when you moved in, there would not be a problem painting them any color you want to.

Most housings you are allowed to paint if you get written permission from the housing office to do so. But part of that is you sign a paper saying that you will prime the walls and paint them back to their original color before you leave the home. I thought about painting ours here, but repriming and painting when we won't be here for that long is alot of work. Good luck to you though!

The post we live on, the housing has went private and they told us we can do anything we want, paint, change light fixtures, lay peel and stick flooring....as long as we return it to the same state it was in when we moved in. I have every room in my house painted, because I cant stand white walls. It makes it feel more like a home then army housing.

Any upgrades you want to do in housing you must get permission first there is a form you will need to fill out make sure you get a copy for your records from housing if they approve it.
Once you clear housing everything must be put back the way it was removing all personal property and painting walls back to original colors.
Good Luck,

Most bases allow you to paint the walls, but the have to be returned to their original paint color at your own expense before you move out. However, they may have rules there that say you flat out can't paint to begin with.

Usually you aren't allowed to paint the walls. The military likes to keep them a beige, white or cream neutral color. This is because families are constantly being moved in and out of the houses available and what color scheme you may like with bright colors the next military wife may not like and will be wanting to paint the walls again. We just hang really nice pictures and frames on the walls and then add color with rugs and furniture. You can get some reall nice couch covers which can really brighten up a room. Also look into things like vases, decorative pieces and curtains.

Be persistent in trying to contact the base. If you cannot paint to your liking, try using colorful rugs as wall hangings and decoration, your furniture can be as colorful as you like and if it is set against a neutral background it can be lovely. I've seen it done well in military housing.
