Most christians say that the coming of Jesus heralded a new covenant between man and god and hence the old laws don't apply anymore.According to the New Testament Matthew 5:17 says "Do not suppose that I have come to abolish the Law and the prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to complete. I tell you this: so long as heaven and earth endure, not a letter, not a stroke, will disappear from the Law until all that must happen has Happened." So since Jesus has not returned the "Law" is still in effect, so why aren't we still burning witches, stoning adulterers and disobedient children, killing homosexuals, ostracizing people that work on the Sabbath (nurses, doctors etc.), flinging blood onto the horns of the alter, pulling off the heads of small birds, and don't forget human sacrifice to God (Leviticus 27 P.28 )?

God and I are working on forcing the whole world to once again follow The Laws of Moses to survive on Earth as we speak.

There is a distinction in the original language that seperates God's law from the laws given to and recorded by Moses. When Moses first went up the mountain, God Himself wrote His laws on the tablets. Then 10 commandments. The rest of the laws were given by God and written by man and those perished with Jesus on the cross. The 10 commandments are eternal and allow us to peek at God's nature. Those laws can not go away.

In this context Jesus was meaning "all that must happen has happened" meant the death burial and ressurection.

The new covenant established after His death, burial and ressurection meant that we now recieve righteousness as a gift, not by works as we all fall short in our works. The Law was fulfilled in Jesus, as it went from and external Law, to being "enscribed on our hearts", and we can recieve forgiveness for our sins that is made available thru Christ. If you notice in the OT all sins needed a sacrifice to be atoned...? Well Jesus blood washed away the sins of all those that believe in Him.

There is too much to go into here, but I would leave you with one final thought...

Rom 8:1 ~ There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Every time Christ said-"but I say unto you"--he was about to abolish another barbaric Jewish Law--like "an eye for an eye"--etc---that's why the Jews were threatened by Christ---he kept demonstrating to them that their laws were wrong--eg--stoning to death an adulteress .

"all that must happen" is not a reference to the second coming, but to the crucifixion and resurrection.

The law does still greatly define what constitutes 'sin,' except in places where particular laws are negated in the NT.
