I want the .doc file to open like .pdf on a server is it possible

You can upload a ".doc" file to any server, just like any other file. It can be opened and read online, but only in Internet Explorer. Other browsers will probably allow the file to be downloaded or opened in another application, most likely MS Word.

Another option would be to open the document in Microsoft Word, and choose "Save As...Web Page" Then you'll have an HTML version that will work in any browser.

Making the document publicly available with an online word processing service like Google documents is another good option.

Why not convert the file to .pdf and put it on the server? Or there are other places on the internet where you can store the file and call it as needed.

on gmail account opening documents is available. just if you get *.doc to gmail you can edit there, preview etc.
