Actually, none of those are evil.

Astronomy is nothing more than the scientific study of extraterrestrial events and bodies.

Astrology is the belief that our futures and pasts can be interpreted by the postion of those same events and bodies.

Astrology is considered a sinful pursuit by christians because of a verse in Galatians that basically condemns putting one's faith in anything other than God.

However, there is no God, so astrology, although it is a psuedoscience, cannot be a sin, nor evil, since there is no God to condemn it.

Regarding Gallileo, he never actually recanted his theory that the Earth was not the center of the universe. He was actually encouraged to publish his treaty on heliocentrism by then Pope Urban VIII, who had previously opposed Galileo's censure in prior years, when he was more commonly known as Cardinal Barberini. Although Pope Urban was a longtime fan of Galileo, he still had peers and superiors to answer to, and they demanded that their incorrect dogma be defended. That being so, Pope Urban personal;ly requested that Galileo to present his arguments for AND against heliocentrism in his book, "Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems" and to allow Pope Urban the space to offer his own views on the controversy. Pope Urban admonished Galileo to not take sides concerning heliocentrism and geocentrism, whioch was the accepted dogma of those days. Galileo allowed Pope Urban his spot, but clearly showed favoritism for heliocentrism.

That act greatly offended the all-knowing dogmatics in charge of the government, and as a result, Galileo was presented before an Inquisition for charges of Heresy.

Galileo was ORDERED to recant his adviocation for heliocentrism, his book was banned along with any prior and future publications, and he was ordered imprisoned.

The religious wackos back then, being so gracious and fair, later commuted his prison sentence to house arrest, and Galileo died in his home about nine years later.

What great guys, those creationists!!!!

Anyway, as the evidence poured in that the earth revolves around the sun, instead of vice versa, biblical literalists recanted their own unsupported theory, and rather than admit their mistake, showed absolute incorrigibility by denying that geocentrism was ever their position. Prior to that, the scriptures which condemned Galileo to imprisonment and silence were the following verses...
Psalm 93:1 ...The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved.
Psalm 96:10 (Which contains the exact same phrase)
Chronicles 16:30 (Which, again, contains the exact same phraze)
Psalm 104:5 He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved.
and
Ecclesiastes 1:5 The sun rises and the sun sets, and hurries back to where it rises.

Now, those same people who would gladly imprison any science teacher who teaches evolution find all kinds of non-literal interpretations for these verses.

It wasn't until 1992 that the church officially recognized the unfairness that was dealt Galileo. That is more than four centuries afte he went blind and died without the freedom to leave his own home.

These are the same people, with the same mindset, that want to abolish the teaching of the FACT of evolution, and offer as fact that the Earth is 6,000 years old, and that cavemen curled up in their caves with T-Rex's running around them.

These are the same people who spend millions of dollars each year grinding down the Ararat Mountains in search of a 400 foot, wooden boat that contained 2 of every land animal on earth for almost a year.

These are the same people who form think tanks to figure out how a man might be able to live three days in the belly of a huge fish (I know, I know, some of you call it a whale, but the bible says it was a "great fish" and I think that an omniscient God would know that whales aren't fish).

Be afraid.
Be VERY afraid.
Lest you wind up like Galileo for daring to think for yourself, based on evidence.

Astrology is not considered evil , but incorect: stars, planets, moon don't have a greater power than God to influence our lives. I'm talking here about saying things like :"You'll receive a great amount of money because planet X is retrograde or something". No man can belive that all peeple in the world under that sign will receive that amount of money, right? And astronomy has no connection with christians: is just a science like maths and chemistry and no christian will ever say that science is wrong. If people would read the Bible they would see that lots of informations there are prooved by science: recently, science people have discovered that all mankind have a common chromosome that originates from a common rooth(like Adam). If you look carefully you will see that science does not contradicts christian beliefs.

I forgot where I read it, but the church originally agreed with Galileo, but after a while he began to interpret scripture on his own in order to try and get his finding to agree with the bible. That's when the church threatened him. He did recant some of his findings due to the threat of torture but he still studied astronomy.

If astronomers are witches I guess I am one to since I own a so-called telescope. I really don't see why your god would have an objection to us using a device to get a better look at the things you say he put in the sky.

Neither are evil. Astronomy is the study of planets and cosmic phenomenon whereas astrology is the study of stars, the positions of the planets in our solar system and how they effect our lives. Astrology is a form of Divination, a way to interpret the future. Astronomy is a science. Astrology is practiced by some witches and wizards but not all.

The real evil is to be as ignorant as you seem to be.
Galileo recanted under threat of torture and excommunication
he did not lie about creation he simply said "hey the sun appears to stand still and we go around it, I think the pope is wrong" the study of stars, planets and other celestial bodies
is called astronomy.
astrology is the time honoured practice of claiming to know
the future and seperating gullible fools from their money
with readings of their star charts for a fee.

Are you really the minimal age of 13?

Astronomy is evil?

Learn the difference between astronomy and astrology first!

If you're a kid please go talk to your teacher!

If you're an adult please go to the library and use the dictionary!

And dont use texting style spelling and grammar !

Astronomy is a science how can a science be evil?

As for Galileo being a "bad man" I suggest you ask the library if they have copies of Dava Sobel's book about his relationship with his daughter.

Are you saying the inventions of man and the thoughts of Gods people are evil.
Are you calling all his creations inside and outside the universe evil?

I dont think God "good" would appreciate that.
Who are you to say that the heavens, the stars and the study and belief of astrological pulls of the heavens is evil?

I think youre evil.

Astrology and astronomy have nothing to do with creationisim and has nothing to do with witchcraft.

None are evil. Astrology is only veiwed as evil by Christians.

Astrology is a very ancient complicated way of tracking and predicting eras in time, analyzing peoples personality traits.etc. Its a faith.

Astronomy is a science.

First astronomy is NOT evil
Astronomy is more acceptable and is backed by plausible and creditable sources than astrology. So I'd say astrology.

Edit:
Poster Jesus M WOW Your comment says plenty are you saying that the earth IS the center of our solar system?
Please say yes So I can laugh at how dumb you are

You've got "astronomy" and "astrology" switched.

Personally I can't say whether a Libra coffee mug is any more or less "evil" than a trip to the planetarium. Aren't there much, much bigger things one could be concerned about?
