ps3 update?

when we update our ps3 media storage systems...
does it take away from our GB?
or does it delete the old update and take away the same memory space?

It overwrites the old update and adds the extra feature watever the new update was supposed to do and it does take a little hdd space but its not a lot...not even a gb its more like 300mb.

Replaces old files. Don't worry.

does that matter? is ps3 not pc, u can't go dig inside and find the file.
