Be consoled that they love nice clean hair, and that this isn't your fault - its the fault of the parents who AREN'T treating their kids.

Try tea tree shampoo and conditioner - comb conditioner through whenever you shampoo. Moan at the school too - they should put pressure on the real culprits.

Hi my daughter had this problem i used to

1/ change all bedding everyday
2/only comb her hair at night time (as her head will get very sore/plus her hair will start snapping)
3/tie her hair up and spray a little hairspray on
4/find out who she was sitting with and playing with and tell the parents
do this for three weeks and if she still has them go to the doctors as i did and they will help
the nits can be in her pillow as well
good luck i know what you are going through

I had head lice when i was in grade school. The first thing my mom did was to cut my hair short. Second is to clean my beddings and soak it in Lysol with hot water, every day or every other day. There is a special type of comb that one uses when removing head lice. You can buy this is some Chinese stores or pharmacy. Then buy shampoo that is just for lice. Let it sit on her head for like 30 mins, and rinse it. You not only kill the lice itself, you also kill the eggs. Brush it again using the special brush. Its a tedious job but you have to remove and kill the eggs by pinching it in between your nails until you hear a pop sound, if you doesnt pop, the one you got maybe dead. Do this everyday. Cause of you dont it will just keep on multiplying. Rinse her brushes with hot water all the time and tell her not to borrow brushes from anyone , and she has to check her classmates hair (by just looking at it) before she goes near. Lice can travel and jump so high that it can transfer from one hair to another.
With my brother, my mom shaved his hair. No extra work and my mum just burned his hair to make sure everything is dead and the eggs and lice it doesn't spread. Lice can be an epidemic among children when it doesn't get resolved. They spread so easily.

Mayonaise. I know it sounds weird but it works. I had lice several times in elementary school. We tried everything to get rid of them. There is something about mayo that suffocates them. Coat her hair in mayo, pile all her hair on top of her head and place a shower cap over it for at least an hour. Rinse thoroughly and comb it out with the nit comb.

If you can get past the smell and the stickyness of the procedure you'll be blessed with a very soft head of hair. Mayo is a natural moisturizer.

Use Hedrin. It's a non pesticide treatment, it suffocates them. If she keeps getting re-infested, treat her every weekend. Do everyone else in the house the first couple of times. You don't need to comb through with this method.

It's not your fault, it's the scummy mummies that won't take decent care of their kids.

Bring back the nit nurse!

Edit.

Nits won't survive more than a couple of hours off a person. Just launder the bedding the first time, you don't need to be obsessive. But the lady above is right, find out who she's catching them off.

dont buy the nit shampoos (they dont work), just keep doing what your doing and they should go away soon if she keeps away from other children with headlice and comb for about half an hour (thats if your only finding one or two)! I hope everything goes OK! Good Luck!

I believe in the good old wives tale and use a nit comb dipped in metholated spirts, it not only kills nits it also kills eggs, the shampoos from shop etc are no use as the nits are immune to them now, my way really works and is very cheap.
Just be careful when doing it, my daughters all three of them are treatded this way and are nit free :)
Its been used in generations of my family and i am happy with it.

hiya, my daughter is 5 and i had the same problem and her hair is very very long, so combing can end up with her in discomfort. I used half bottle of neat vodka mixed with quarter bottle of neat t tree oil, left the solution on over night, then when i washed her hair in the morning the nits just fell out. strange but true. hope this can help in some way.

Add a couple of drops of Tea Tree to a 'de-tangle' type spray in conditioner and comb that through her hair for a couple of days.

The nit comb is your only real cure and needs to be used 2 or 3 of times a day until you have had a couple of clear days.

Speak to her teacher and ask if they can send out notices to other parents (they do at most schools) to remind them to check their kids hair.

It only needs one kid to still have them at the school, and by the end of the day, they are all back to square one!

You need to use a lice repellent, you get these in mousses or sprays, you use these when washing your child's hair. Also you are right to keep combing it but thats half the solution, if you do not use the chemical repellents you get from the pharmacist, it isnt going to kill the nits (eggs) and solve the problem. I suggest you isolate your child from other children, as if you send her to school its only going to spread it to other children ie coats in the cloakroom and sitting next to long haired girls in class.

I am afraid it is a case of being patient because not all parents bother to treat them. I certainly would not use any of the bought solutions such as Lyclear as they are full of pesticides and no good for your skin. The best thing I have found is the cheapest conditioner available with a few drops of pure tea tree oil mixed in. They hate the smell of it. It seems to work for my daughter.

Good luck and keep combing.
