According to religious beliefs that support the heaven or hell theory do animals such as lets say cats or dogs have an after life and be judged on whether they were good or not and later be rewarded or punished? obviously they can't be religious since they lack the capacity of even understanding what religion is. so do they? or are they just soul-less creatures to live and die?

Good Question.

All living beings (humans and animals) are souls. You are right that Animals can't understand what religion is. That's why the laws of nature doesn't apply on them i.e. animals don't accumulate karma, because they cannot make independent decisions.

But humans being awarded with the ability to understand religion are always under the laws of nature.

Please download this e-Book "Laws of Nature: An Infallible Justice (204K)" from this link http://www.krishna.com/taxonomy/term/58. It has everything about laws of nature.

In buddhist beliefs , anyone can become any creature based on its past deeds and they all get reborn. Reincarnation/rebrth is the fundamental principle applies to all and no one can escape from it except those who become like Buddha. So its possible that your cat was your grandma.
After the death, the soul has no body but it has desires. It can not enjoy the world so it desires to acquire a body. And one day it finds itself in a womb and then it comes out as a creature of any kind , a cat, a mouse, a dog , a human or anything. Similarly an animal , after death may become a human.
The devil wants the creatures to remain it this cycle because he owns it. Buddha says that the life in any form is painful and ends in despair, therefore one need to seek escape i.e salvation from it , and that is called nirvana. Those who attain nirvana will not get reborn, will always remain in blissful, formless, bodyless state of omnipotent, almighty. That state is called state of God.

A great mystery,I am a firm believer in God and in Heaven, I
fine one sentence in the Bible that states " Heaven is without
dogs" I know my little brain can not comprehend God, I can
not picture a Heaven full of dinosaurs, snakes and the like, cats
are intuitive and dogs will give their life for You,so hard to say
they do not have a role in the grand scheme of things.

i think that animals do have an after life.
sometimes when i look at certain people - they sort of remind me of a certain animal. i have a couple of friends who look like mice - one that's a cow and another that's a pig =P but some people who look like animals can be really pretty - like i have a friend who has such big and gentle eyes - she's like a deer.

Animals are not accountable for any thing. They do not commit sins like humans do. These are created for humans to make their life better. Humans will be accountable for cruielty to animals. Animals are position near men for testing their behaviour towards animals.

Men kill animals for target practice. But animals eat other animals only to eat. Do not kill for the sake of fun.

You only have one life. Death is a pause and resurrection is a continuation. Annihilation is the second death, which is permanent. Souls (nephesh) literally means animal or living being. Animals (excluding humans), don't sin, so they do actually get to live on.

No
Lev 17:14 because the life of every creature is its blood. That is why I have said to the Israelites, "You must not eat the blood of any creature, because the life of every creature is its blood; anyone who eats it must be cut off."

If heaven is for us, then those who go will have their pets waiting for them since it is heaven after all.
