I heard from some people that people who turn in applications wearing jeans get a "B.J." stamp on their application, which means it goes to get shredded. Is this true?

Depends on the nature of industry and level of management. In a old economy companies, candidates are not expected to attend interviews in jeans and Tshirts

Not likely! Dress code applies to some jobs, after you get selected and you start on the job!

the best thing is that you make your homework about the job, job spec and the company expectation before you attempt the interview.

people can easily say "Don't judge a book by its cover"...
but the fact is.... "First impressions always counts"...

like others said... "it depends on what kind of job you're applying to..."

If you're applying for a white-collar job, you have to wear the proper attire or follow dress code.
