It is a complicated explanation. Let it be known that the term 'Mythology' should never be used when dealing with the Supreme Lord, Vishnu, or His servants such as Brahma and Shiva. Because the Vedas explain everything scientifically. If we can accept the Sciences of the Vedas, why not the description of the Supreme Lord Vishnu? It is not a myth, but the first truth known to human kind.

Hindu Cosmology envisions that the Universe(s) undergo a continuous process of Creation, Preservation and Dissolution.

There are millions of Bubbles floating on the Hoods of Adi Sesha, the Serpent Bed of the Supreme Lord Vishnu. In each bubble, there are 14 Universes. Thus, Hindu Cosmology talks of vast and infinite multiverses.

The size of each bubble is like a mustard seed, as compared with the Majesty of the Supreme Lord Sriman Narayana (Vishnu).

Consider just one of these Universes for now. During the time of Creation, Lord Vishnu will first give life to a demi-god named Brahma, who creates. Brahma will appear from the belly-button of Vishnu on a Lotus. The opening of the Lotus to reveal Brahma is synonymous with the Big Bang.

Brahma creates the Universe after millions and millions of years of pondering. The first beings are other demi-gods like Shiva, Indra, etc.

One Day and Night of Brahma is 8,640,000,000 years. Hence, the Universe, according to Hindu Cosmology, is half as old as that, ie, 4,320,000,000 years (One Day of Brahma).

Brahma's life is divided into 1000 Chathur Yugas. Each Chathur Yuga is 4,320,000 years old.

71 Chathur Yugas make up a Manvantara, each Manvantara ruled by a being named 'Manu'. This Manu is the Father of all Humans.

Each Chathur Yuga is divided into 4 smaller Yugas. The Krita Yuga (1728000 Years), the Treta Yuga (1296000 Years), the Dwapara Yuga (864,000 Years) and the Kali Yuga (432000 years). We are in the 5000th year of Kali Yuga.

Thus, the Earth was created at the beginning of the Krita Yuga, which places its age as about 4,320,000 years old. At the end of the Kali Yuga, Lord Vishnu will incarnate as Kalki. He will destroy the evil elements and restore the Krita Yuga again. Most likely, because of the death of the Sun, Lord Vishnu will transport the Earth to another Solar System. This has been predicted as a possible fate of the Earth's fate by Mordern Scientists as well, ie, the destruction of the Sun will cause the Earth to move away from its orbit before the deadly rays reach the planet. It could then travel to another place in the Universe.

We are in the 5000th year of Kali Yuga, as mentioned before. So, the end of this Yuga and the time of arrival of Lord Kalki is estimated to be 427000 AD.

After one day of Brahma, ie, 4,320,000,000 years, the Universe is destroyed. After another 4,320,000,000, which is the Night of Brahma, another Universe is created. This is called Pralaya.

This does not happen only for our Universe, but there are many millions of Brahmas for each and every one of the Parallel Universes existing in Bubbles. All of these Brahmas, Universes and their countless planets with the inhabitants will undergo the same process.

Now, we know that one Day and Night of Brahma is 8.64 Billion Years. Thus, the Life of Brahma is Hundred Brahma-Years, which equals to 311 Trillion Human Years.

Thus, after 311 Trillion Years, when all the current Brahmas die, Lord Vishnu will initiate a Maha Pralaya. Everything that was created, all the infinite bubbles with the parallel Universes, matter, anti-matter and anything distinct from the Supreme Lord Vishnu, will be swallowed by Him. All the worlds, universes, demi-gods, living souls, stars, moons, planets, etc. will reside in the stomach of the Lord.

Then, Lord Vishnu will once again expel the matter out of His divine Mouth. New Brahmas and Universes will be created again, preserved again and ultimately, destroyed again. This is an endless cycle, whose beginning is known only to Lord Vishnu, the eternal Brahman.

The Rig Veda asserts that none but Lord Narayana (Vishnu) knows when this Cycle of Creation, Preservation and Destruction began, as follows:

"Then was not non-existence nor existence: there was no realm of air, no sky beyond it. What covered in, and where? and what gave shelter? Was water there, unfathomed depth of water? Death was not then, nor was there aught immortal: no sign was there, the day's and night's divider. That One Thing, breathless, breathed by its own nature: apart from it was nothing whatsoever. Darkness there was at first concealed in darkness this. All was indiscriminated chaos. All that existed then was void and form less: by the great power of Warmth was born that Unit. Thereafter rose Desire in the beginning, Desire, the primal seed and germ of Spirit. Sages who searched with their heart's thought discovered the existent's kinship in the non-existent. Transversely was their severing line extended: what was above it then, and what below it? There were begetters, there were mighty forces, free action here and energy up yonder. Who verily knows and who can here declare it, whence it was born and whence comes this creation? The devas are later than this world's production. Who knows then whence it first came into being? He, the first origin of this creation, whether he formed it all or did not form it, Whose eye controls this world in highest heaven, he verily knows it, or perhaps he knows not" - (Rig Veda 10.129.1-7)

The world was always there and will always be there, is the Hindu theory. You can bombard the whole universe but the 'matter' will remain always. Only the shape will change.

To understand the theory of creation in the present form of the world, we need to go to a spiritual guide whom we call, a Guru, in Hinduism. The Guru should be 'Shrotriya and Brahmnishtha" which means that he should be well versed in all the divine theories of the world, plus he should be a face to face with God ( We call Him Krishn).

Going to researchers is a waste of time.

There are several mythological stories in Hinduism. They are for lay -hindus or uneducated masses. If anybody listens to them would hear numerous bewildering episodes.

A person who is interested in Hinduism should properly approach an authority in Hindu scriptures- as one should approach a professor in astronomy to understand about galaxy and universe

To know about the theory of creation, you have to ask an enlightened guru, who would let you know the truth.

Before this time began, there was no heaven, no earth and no space between. A vast dark ocean washed upon the shores of nothingness and licked the edges of the night.A giant cobra floated on the waters. Asleep within its endless coils lay the Lord Vishnu. He was watched over by the mighty serpent.

Everything was so peaceful and silent that Vishnu slept undisturbed by dreams or motion. From the depths a humming sound began to tremble, Aum. It grew and spread, filling the emptiness and throbbing with energy.

The night had ended, Vishnu awoke. As the dawn began to break, from Vishnu’s navel grew a magnificent lotus flower. In the middle of the blossom sat Vishnu’s servant, Brahma. He awaited the Lord’s command. Vishnu spoke to his servant: ‘It is time to begin.’ Brahma bowed. Vishnu commanded: ‘Create the World.’ A wind swept up the waters. Vishnu and the serpent vanished.

Brahma remained in the lotus flower, floating and tossing on the sea. He lifted up his arms and calmed the wind and the ocean. Then Brahma split the lotus flower into three. He stretched one part into the heavens. He made another part into the earth. With the third part of the flower he created the skies.

The earth was bare. Brahma set to work. He created grass, flowers, trees and plants of all kinds. To these he gave feeling. Next he created the animals and the insects to live on the land. He made birds to fly in the air and many fish to swim in the sea. To all these creatures, he gave the senses of touch and smell. He gave them power to see, hear and move.

The world was soon bristling with life and the air was filled with the sounds of Brahma’s creation.

Hindu theory;- This is neither 1st world nor 1st universe. There are so many. Supreme God is one, Creator is Brahma, sustainer is Vishnu & destroyer/modifier is Shiva. Brahma split into male & female & created small to big living beings.

I am composing few paragraphs here.....

We normally think of ourselves as coming into being when we are born of our parents and as perishing when we die. According to Hinduism, however, this current life is merely one link in a chain of lives that extends far into the past and projects far into the future. The point of origin of this chain cannot be determined. The process of our involvement in the universe—the chain of births and deaths—is called samsāra.

Samsāra is caused by a lack of knowledge of our true self and our resultant desire for fulfillment outside ourselves. We continue to embody ourselves, or be reborn, in this infinite and eternal universe as a result of these unfulfilled desires. The chain of births lets us resume the pursuit. The law that governs samsāra is called karma. Each birth and death we undergo is determined by the balance sheet of our karma—that is, in accordance with the actions performed and the dispositions acquired in the past.

Word Hindu originated when foreigners discovered Indian civilization, which was located in Indo-Gangetic plane (sindhu-ganga Samatala) i.e. East of sindhu river. After that foreigners use to call Indian civilization as sindhu.
Later with the passage of time, the word sindhu got distorted to Hindu and religion followed by them as Hinduism.

Before that inhabitant of land of sindhu use to follow religion called sanatana dharma, which means "eternal value of life that sustains". sanatana dharma is an ancient religion and only non-prophetic religion in the World. It doesn't depend upon one person and a single doctrine. sanatana dharma is monotheistic and pantheistic religion, but misunderstood as polytheistic.
