She had never had a lesson before but ended up creating a new style of landscape painting. She had always wanted to paint but factors in her life made it difficult.

Her story is an inspiration to anyone wanting to start/try something but might feel its too late.

I cant remember where i read it and am having trouble finding out her name so i can tell other people.

Anyone know?

Grandma Moses? Or Georgia O'Keefe?

The painter to whom you are referring is known as "Grandma Moses" (Anna Mary Robertson, 1860-1961) an untrained artist, whose work has been described as primitive and childlike; hence, her style is known as folk art (meaning art of the common people). She began painting her nostalgic rural scenes at the age of 67 and completed over two thousand works before she died. It is most definitely NOT Georgia O'Keeffe (1887-1986), a New York trained artist, identified with the Precisionists, and whose work is characterized by photographic perspective, stark value contrasts, and the absence of human figures.

There was a lady that lived near where I currently reside and that is western Oklahoma. Her name was Augusta Medcalf...(I am not sure of the spelling here.) At any rate, she began painting at a very late stage in her life...somewhere aroung 70 or 80 as I recall. I do not remember anyone calling her paintings a new technique, but she did paint landscapes that she recalled from her childhood. Now she passed many years ago, but her paintings today are very vaulable. My parents took me to her house many years ago, and it was truly in the sticks as they say......Never the less, she dedicated a lot of her time to painting and helping others in the last stages of her life....very similar to what O'keefe did in her lifetime.....I hope this helps...It is never to late to start painting for sure....Nomadic
