before i think 1989 or in the 90s the green cards didn't have expiration dates but now, i think because he needs money to invade iran, they want to make us renew. is it now law?

for those of you that don't know if you came before a certain time, there was no expiration data. so the twelve years doesn't apply. and for your information, without being a citizen, i still pay taxes i do all of the same stuff you do. comparing it to driving a car is stupid. do you pay citizenship fees every year? you don't think the timing is weird? security? why don't people remember oklahoma and waco? Last time I checked they were not immigrants-illegal or otherwise.

Yes, the old cards need to be renewed. The new cards are good for 10 years before they need to be renewed.

Yes the cards must be renewed. Anyway I would apply for citizenship because in the long run you would be saving a lot of money than renewing your green card every 10 years. Remember when you are a citizen you have the freedom to travel out of the country indefinitely and you have the the protection from being deported.

Think about it
Good Luck

Yak man is right again. You must renew your card. And it has nothing to do with "wanting money" it has to do with security, with reducing rampant document fraud, and with putting the expense of services on the people who use those services - why should I have to pay for your green card through my taxes? It's the same as your not having to pay for my drivers license if you don't drive.

They won't deport someone for having an old green card from when they had no expiration dates but you should renew it...They could deny you re-entry to the U.S. if you travel. So I would advise that you renew it as soon as you can. As for them needing money...let's face it...this big government always wants more and more of our hard earned money so they can continue to grow even larger!!!

green cards do need renewal! after 12 years: or, after rendered invalid/due for renewal, due to time away from US, more than one year, without due 'approval'!
