Different people respond differently to various meds. If you doctor suggest Zoloft, then try it for at least 3 or 4 weeks. If after that you don't feel better, ask for something from another group of anti-depressants. There are (I think) four "families" of depression drugs... the one that Zoloft is in may or may not be the right one for you. Whatever you do, take as directed and do NOT get off any medicine cold turkey. And be completely honest with your doctor!

Good luck!

With Zoloft and therapy I've been given a second chance at life, healthy and active, I've had a return of functioning that was lost for years. I've found myself humming a tune and smiling. It feels good to carry on a meaningful conversation. Regaining the ability to reason and make decisions is a real blessing. While I'll never be fully "normal", believe me, I make sure I take my medication daily. I don't want to go back to that depressed and dysfunctional state. I want to be a full participant in life.

Well, you found 1 person that it helped! It did nothing for me....made me even more depressed than I was to the point that I could not get out of bed to go to work until the very last minute. I have not had any luck with any of the SSRIs.....not one. I haven't had any weight gain with them, they just make me more depressed than I already was.....so to suicidal....which is not what I am. So I just take nothing. I keep busy and do the best I can til I hear something else comes out. I hear this psychiatrist does such and such, but I don't think they really care....we are just another # to them for the most part. They give out whatever is the flavor of the month drug that the drug reps are pushing. IF Medicaid doesn't like it, they tell you that you cant take it and give you something you can't take. I'm not very hopeful to these guys and their antidepressants.

I have taken Zoloft for 12+ years, and I feel like 'me' when I am on it.

It truly has made a positive difference in my life, and no matter what meds you choose, I hope they work for you as well.
