Okay so I have been having problems sleeping for the past month.I cannot sleep before 3am EVERYNIGHT.I mean i begin feeling sleepy at about 10-11pm but when I go to bed nothing happens.I toss and turn and walk until about 3am and then I fall asleep.

I have also noticed that IF I do fall asleep before 3am,the sleep is not restful.I usually get bad dreams or I sleep lightly and any sound wake me up.It is driving me crazy as I am feeling the effect of it now.I am a university student and I use lots of vitamins.I eat healthy, exercise everyday and am very intuned to my body.

I dont know if this would help in answering my question but I drank coffee for years[I grew up with grandparents,lol.]. Even now when I drink coffee its not to keep me awake, because it does not,I just drink it because I love how it tastes.I can drink an entire pot of black coffee and fall asleep right after. My mom told me I am a caffine addict so I have not had coffee in months just to prove her wrong.lol.

A simple exercise in Yoga to eliminate sleeplessness is called Yoga Nidra. Nidra means sleep. Please follow the guideline correctly. In this Yoga, you have to determine the most comfortable posture for you to sleep. When you wake up after sleeping, do not move your body.Observe closely your posture i.e. whether you are lying to your left or right, the position of your head, shoulder, hands and legs etc. This is going to be your permanent posture to start sleeping. This differs from person to person.
Next step relates to your breathing.Having taken the predecided posture you have to pay attention to your breathing. You are inhaling and exhaling breath. You have to count from 100 to 1 backwards, mentally. When you inhale, you do not count, but when you exhale you should say in your mind 100. When you exhale the next breath , you say 99 . Like this you have to count backwards. No other thoughts should enter your mind during this Yoga. If any thought do enters your mind, discard it and restart counting from 100 . This will induce very deep and sound sleep and when you get up you will feel springy and bouncy. My request, teach this Yoga exercise to as many persons as possible. A good sleep is real gift of God.

Hey ma:)
Sorry to hear about your insomnia.. had that issue for a while too... interestingly my pregnancy with our first daughter stopped it but gawd.. it was driving me bonkers.
My husband works shift work so he found that there was an inability to sleep too so he started doing some things that worked for him

Try to exercise at some point a while before you sleep. I know this might be hard but getting a skipping rope and doing some cardio has a way of just releasing the stress in your body. You are a studying person too and all this kind of stress stores up in your body and work together to mess up your sleep.
This will also help you to get into a " night routine" that will prepare your body mentally and physically for rest.
Eating very heavy food tends to work against you too. Some say that warm milk has a way of relaxing your body... So after exercising and doing some " relax stretching"... have a nice shower and then a good ole cup of warm milk or cocoa..whatever tickles your fancy... and since ur not bothered by caffine then i think it'll be ok to have the cocoa. Be sure that your vitamins has sufficient B complexes and Iron for your nerves. Dr Chase Nerve and Blood food is quite good. THe hubby took it and it really supplied him with what was needed for his nerveous system...
WHen you get to bed.. plop out the word and start your systematic reading baby.... start from genesis and make your way across the bible... be sure to have a book mark too:)
I found that when he started doing these things he was able to get the rest he needed.

Hope that this can help even in a small measure ma...
All the best to you sweet sister

ur sis

First, do not take any sleeping pills! Because you will only require more dozes with time.

Few simple tips!

1. Very important, give ONE HOUR of rest and calm before actually going to bed! Do not watch TV! Do not excite your brain with anything. Read a poem, a romance, sit in a hot tub!

2. Do NOT drink coffee! In the morning ALWAYS have a breakfast! Anything that has protein in it will do!

3. Do some kind of exercise, like a 10 minute walk either in a morning or at evening.

4. Do not eat a lot throughout the day and especially do not eat within 4 hours before going to bed.

5. Do not stress out too much. Remember to relax.

A simple diet will change your sleeping for the good!

That sucks I know how not sleeping can be. The sleeping pills you tried where they prescribed to yu if not then they may not have been strong enough. Actually I got a ddicted to sleeping pills cuz I could never sleep kicked the habit. I started tyaking melatonin awhile ago and it works great. I take 3 even tho the bottle says one only. It is a chemical made by the brain to promote restfull sleep. Thing with that is if you take it artificially for too long your body will quit making it so what I do is take it on days I really need to get sleep and then on weekends I don't take it. You can get it at any drugstore or I am sure like a natural Foods would have it to they usually have stuff like that. I get mine at sam's club

don't drink any caffeine silly thta makes you not sleep

make sure your room is very dark. put on a satin eye cover(i use this) and you probably should also take some "Melatonin" its a natural pill that you take and will not make you groggy the next morning and has NO side effects. but it will help you fall asleep fast and then keep you sleeping all through the night. it has two layers. you could also go the doc and he/she could give you a perscription. o yeah, and also try a sound maker. i have Tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and i sometimes i have a hard time ignoring the ring, i use a sound maker.

try taking melatonin about an hour or two before you want to go to bed, it should help you, it doesn't make you feel all drugged, just more sleepy. It helped me alot when I used to work night shift and had to sleep in the day time.
Also, 8 classes? and if you're working on top of that, I would say that might be why you have bad dreams, you are too stressed.

First of all, I empathize with you. I had insomnia for years so I know how frustrating it is. I'm assuming you've read all the basics about how to get a good night sleep (ie. don't exercise right before bed, do a relaxing activity, use your bedroom only for sex and sleeping, etc. ,etc. ,etc.)
One thing that works for me is Melatonin. You can find this at any health food store or pharmacy. Hope this helps!
