I grew up as a baptist fundamentalist. Some on R&S are accussing fundies for being close minded and ect. I am not saying I am agreeing with all the fundies. Some are ignorant and unneccessarilly blatant and "unloving" in their questions and answers.
Why are we stereotyped this way then?
Personnally I only believe what the Bible says. Does this make me a close-minded Christian?
Romans 3:4
God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

If you believe Jesus is Lord then you are a "fundamentalist". Take it as a compliment, honey, I do.
You know, the Bible said that there would be scorners in the last days. I don't think God was lying, do you?

It means you are blinded by your own wisdom, instead of exploring the facts.., the possibility of facts that exist that have not been discovered. A fact undiscovered does not become a non fact. Certain classes of blindness for example were not discovered until they were validated - BUT - the causes remained the same despite the fact someone discovered it. In religious circles this logic applies, and the best atheists can come up with is throwing the Easter Bunny into the equation, or asking some dimwit question about God creating something he cant fix. Close Minded, Narrow Minded, Retarded, take your pick. I'll even invent and sell a new expression to you for $50 if you'd like

Spiritualism is simple, but de-learning is what makes it more difficult. Since beginning, our mind has been conditioned and we are accustomed to interact with the world as per those conditionings, which varies from person to person and changes with the passage of time. Because of these conditionings, we get a distorted view of the World. As a result we always try to categorize the worldly objects as good or bad (duality). All are same, it's mind which makes it good and bad as per conditioning.
Religion is a cup through which one can enjoy the drink of spirituality. Content are more important than container. People who are obsessed with container (pseudo religion) become ignorant and fanatic. Ignorance creates duality whereas wisdom creates unity.

All true wisdom comes through the bible. For instance "only the fool has said in his heart there is no God". Because we follow and don't lead God we are viewed as weak and mindless. It is a wise lifestyle impossible to fully appreciate by all that sit on the throne of their heart. Having surrendered all we are bound to be misunderstood and considered too simple to run our own life the way the world does. "If this is a dream then let me dream on". If God is a "crutch" then give me another one. I know God is real and that this realm will vanish like a vapor-and 10,000 yrs from now we will all know the truth; whether God is God or just a crutch to us simple childlike ones.
God Bless

If you only believe what the bible says, then yes, you are close minded. Open minded would mean that would be willing to consider all the evidence before making a decision about the subject. By saying that you only accept what the bible is saying, your admitting that is not the case.
Just because this is a stereotype, doesn't mean that the stereotype isn't generally true, as it is in this case.

I doubt "closed-minded" can apply only to "fundies".
If others are so open-minded why have they closed their minds to all the knowledge that is out there in the world including the Bible? In fact, I find those who think they are not "fundies" their knowledge esp. of the Bible to be very limited. Even to criticize a point of view one needs to know it thoroughly. How such people can be champions of open-mindedness escapes me.
A closed mind is a dangerous possession.

Well IMO I pair the term "fundie" with a bible thumping zealot.
Fundamentalist or not... I don't think the title really makes someone a "fundie" unless they actually act like the crazed "it has to be my way" nuts I equate "fundie" with.

Absolutely, that's the definition of close-minded. You just stated you have closed your mind to anything not from the Bible. Why was there even any question about it?

Actually you are closed minded if you only believe what the bible says and are not open to anything at all.
Just think of people who said that man was not meant to fly and would not be swayed even if they were shown a B2 bomber.
Definition of closed minded:
"lacking tolerance or flexibility or breadth of view; "a brilliant but narrow-minded judge"; "narrow opinions""
That would be you if you just accept the bible and nothing else.

no one can be close minded to the wodd of god. just becouse a church doctrine says this is the way it is, doesnt mean thats the way it is. you find out for yourself by study and prayer thaht god will show you the hidden things in his word. i personally dont accept or believe man made doctrines. you would be suprised at how the word of god has been twisted and made to conform to mans carnal way of mans way of thinging. and we are not set free by a lie but the truth sets us free.thank you summer. love pastor carney
