didn't eat anything that she knew of differently besides crickets. She doesn't seem to be begging, as if she had been fed people food. I don't understand what could have made her so friggin FAT. Any insight?

Maybe your Friend fed her much more than you would have. Your cat could have turned to food for comfort.

Your cat missed you and overate because of stress.

I don't know why she was eating crickets, but that would add some extra protein to her diet.

If your cat is getting older, she could also be taking more catnaps and be less active, so that is contributing to her weight.

Be happy that you were able to leave your cat with a friend for two months instead of in a kennel, I am sure she was well taken care of.

maybe the brand of cat food was not the best to feed her
or maybe she just didn't get the exercise that she got when she lived with you
watch how much she eats and play with her daily, she'll lose the weight in no time at all
I know my cat tries to eat more when he is stressed out (like after vet visits, or if we have an animal visitor in the house because I do a bit of dog sitting) so maybe your cat was just stressed out without you

Nothing is more heartbreaking than doing a favor for a friend and having them question you about it.

Poor kitty probably just missed you and gorged herself on cat food. My cats eat too much when they are stressed, and it doesn't take much.
