I would search the area for kittens. She may have a litter hidden somewhere, and of course she would be upset being taken from them.If your husband can find them and bring them to her,she would be so happy. And,no,she wouldn't be happier " living free." If you have her spayed and keep her indoors, she will be very happy, believe me.

She has probably never ridden in a car before and may have been a little distressed. This would soon pass if she was brought into a loving home. She obviously needs love. We have a stray older cat. She has been living with us for 3 years now and is extremely content. We kept her inside with a kitty litter box for a few days to get used to us and gradually introduced her to her new environment. The vet should be able to give you advice on her age etc.

I have had cats for pets most of my life. I have 4 cats right now....2 of the cats are strays that adopted me. They stay close to my house all the time. They talk (meow) to me all the time. Maybe the cat was just talking to your husband. Or, maybe she just didn't like being in the car.

she was probably just scared. tell him to try it again, and just talk to her softly. i've brought stray cats home before, and they would meow too. i think she would adjust very well, to living indoors, and would bond with the two of you quickly, if given the chance. as far as how old she is, I would have to see her to give you an idea. give her a chance....i'm sure she could adapt very well to living inside. :) be sure to give her lots of love, and attention if you decide to bring her home with you.

It sounds like a typical cat reaction to being in a car. Most of mine would sound like a wailing banshee. One of mine now, who is a social butterfly and extrovert, loves to ride and looks out all the windows and wants to steer.

I'd just take her home. She's safer with you in your home than roaming around outside. Take her to the Vet asap, too. How nice of you guys to do that. :) I've done it many times. In fact, back in April I had a pregnant female make my car home one night when my windows were down. I took her in and still have her and found the babies homes.
