I would like to get temporary highlights that wash out so I don't get yelled at by my parents.

There are spray on colors at most beauty supply stores. Choose a white or very light color and spray it on first. Then spray on the color you want over that -it'll make the second color show up more. And the best thing about it? It washes out at the next shampooing. You can try all sorts of colors, and play with designs as well.

You can't get temporary highlights, you have to bleach your hair in order to get highlights (color doesn't lift color if you have hair color on your head and color won't get you any were near a nice blond) and when you bleach your hair you are actually taking color out of your hair and even if you lightened with color it won't just fade, you are still taking color out and you have to put it back in yourself. The reason color is temporary is because you are putting a color in there and it eventually fades and washes back out, and bleach takes color out and reveals your underlying pigment so in order for your hair to go back to your natural again you will have to put color back in there. It is very hard to get black out of your hair so don't do it at home, it will be a mess, I can't see you and I already know that it will turn orange, you will have to bleach and re-bleach and re-bleach in order to get a decent color, and even as a stylist being vigorously trained to bleach and color hair I would never consider giving myself highlights, especially if I was going to have to re-bleach, spots will be missed and the orange will come, go to a salon, we are trained thoroughly to do these things.

theres no way to lighten hair without bleaching it. You can use something that is more like wax that sits on top of your hair instead of actually removing color from it, but it will leave a gross texture.
