The project is about hydropower. I made this dam type thing and I have a water pump like device( the ones they use in aquariums to filter the water). Anyways the water pump pumps the water over the dam. I also made a turbine out of 2 margarine container caps( they are circular and are made out of bendy plastic) and I attached some soda bottle caps to the middle of the caps.... I know this is kinda confusing....umm it looks like a water wheel. This water wheel is the turbine for the dam. I attached the water wheel to the dam by means of a copper wire and I had to make a hole in the margarine caps in order to pass the wire through. I also bought a 9 volt DC motor and I attached it to a light bulb. The DC Motor has like a spoke thing and whenever the spoke turns electricity is produced. I need to know how to attach the DC MOTOR to the water wheel so whenever the wheel turns it turns the spoke and produces electricity. If anyone could help me I would be reaally grateful to them. Thanks.

Hi Try this
use the motor to replace the copper wire attaching the wheel to the dam.
I would use a piece of flat plastic glued to the water wheel with a hole small enough that you can jam the motor spoke (shaft) into the hole tightly.
use copper wire on the other side of the wheel to keep it turning straight
have fun
cheers

I think you need a DC generator not a DC motor. It would have to be hooked to a capacitor to hold the charge until it reached a certain point and then to discharge into whatever you are going to make it do. Ex lite a bulb etc.. You should be able to find some plans online by doing a seach on portable generators or science projects generators. good luck

Try finding a cam-shaft arm at a hobby shop or miniature working cars/planes supply store. What I,m talking about is a car engine piston rod, in miniature. These rods/camshaft arms are needed for those motorized model planes, cars, boats, etc. Bring in your project so that the store clerk/hobbyist can match up sizes, lengths, etc; that will make your project work like a charm! the eggster
