Would you sooner the police did nothing about terrorism? Wait till something happens, then say oh well, hard luck!

It's very difficult to get the balance right. The Police are blamed, but if they didn't act and the people were terrorists the public would be up in arms, so it seems that the Police can't win. As far as I am aware there is an anti terrorist squad.

Give this government and Brussels long enough and the police state will be here. At that time the police will be pan Europe and no doubt we will have foreign police on the streets, rather as the Roman legions were sourced for personnel outside the countries that they were stationed in. Then look for any human rights if you are not in a minority.

ECHR is an integral part of law and steers and guides police. Everyone yells on about how the Police infringe Human Rights etc...do you know what human rights are? Are they absolute rights, is there any permitted infringement? Research and return....

Yes we are becoming a police state. Any state in which the police can deliberately kill an innocent man and go unpunished is a police state.
The trouble is that the level of intelligence and ethical behaviour is very low in a lot of policemen.

YES YOU ARE CORRECT IN YOUR ASSUMPTIONS.
HUMAN RIGHTS ARE ONE THING. TO HIDE BEHIND THEM AS THE TERRORISTS DO IS ANOTHER THING.
ONE MIGHT ASK HOW FAR CAN ONE GO TO ENFORCE THE TERRORISTS ACT? THE LAW IS VERY BROAD AND OPEN TO GREAT SPECULATION ABOUT WHO COULD BE ARRESTED. IF SOMEONE THOUGHT WE ON THIS SITE WERE PLOTTING AS TERRORISTS THEY COULD TURN US IN.
I LIKE THE IDEA OF A SATTF. BUT WHO WOULD BE THE OVERSEER OF THE GROUP. WE ARE PLAYING WITH LARGE EGOS HERE AND GREAT AUTONOMY TO DO SOMETHING ON THAT LARGE A SCALE.
I THINK IF YOU ASKED FOR A PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST IT MIGHT BE EASIER.

special training for special situations is always a good thing-- people who can't reasonably be expected to have good judgement about unfamiliar situations really ought not to be dumped into them-- it's bad for all concerned--especially where risk to human life is an issue
