Effexor XR is a good drug, but not for too many people. It increases patients blood pressure, 1 in 3 patients have nausea, increases anxiety symptoms, very short half-life(miss one pill & you will feel withdrawal symptoms),side effects are so bad that no one I know has ever been able to get to a higher(above 150 mg) efficacious dose, & worst of all, majority of patients can not ween themselves off. Hooked for life! Before trying a drug considered an SNRI, all patients and doctors should have you try an SSRI. Such as Zoloft, Prozac, Paxil, Celexa, or Lexapro. These meds are all not equal, some cause worse problems than Effexor XR. But, I take and recommend Lexapro. It is by far the most tolerable and efficacious anti-depressant on the market. And you can stop pretty much over night.

Headaches is a side effect for EffexorXR. Did you stop with doctor's permission? You may be taking something else that is interacting with Effexor giving you the headaches. Talk to your doctor.......it's their job to get you the right medicines.
I heard today that only 1:3 people respond to prescription drug therapy in the manner prescribed. Hence so many different drugs as we each react differently. The news article said they are trying to find a genetic reason for such diversity. We are not clones, we are each different and unique. If you doctor treats you like a clone, time for a new doc.

Yes, I had to get off of it, I hated Effexor with a passion. Ask the doc the proper way for you to come off of it if you decide you can't ride out the side effects until you reach stabilization.
I couldn't take it anymore and I went cold turkey, but I wouldn't advise anyone to do that.

Do a web search on this....your MD should have precribed you something to keep you going, like Prozac. You just can't come off Effexor. It is called Effexor Withdrawl and people have literally taken their lives over this. Please, read up on it. It makes you very sick to stop this medicine and you need another antidepressant to stabilize you while you go off of it. Seriously. If you took yourself off of it, go back on and have a doctor ween you off.

Yes Kim, when I started I had headaches. On the site=crazymeds.com== they say they stop when your body reaches the proper doseage for you. I'm comeing off effexor on my own currently. Its been the perfect med for me but no longer can afford it. Been on it since 2002.
Good Luck.

When I was on Effexor I felt faint and dizzy, I had to come of them after 2 weeks, there are lots of other antidepressants that may suit you better.
