I suppose it could be.

Attorneys, too, 'practice' law as doctors 'practice' medicine. The concept has been around for an extremely long time. We all know, however, from experience that their term 'practice' isn't exactly similar to what our definition may be!

Yeah, I don't know where that term came from, but I agree.
It's just a part of the language. I'm not sure what else you would call what doctors do.
I had a medical "practice" for years. Hmmm.
A medical "job" for years.
Medical "business"- No, ' don't like that one - - though it was too much like a business to suit me.
