Here's a picture with the exposition of the sacrament:

In parish churches the Most Blessed Sacrament is regularly kept on the high altar, which accordingly should have a tabernacle for the reservation of the Sacred Species (S.R.C., 28 Nov., 1594; 21 Aug., 1863). The prescribed ornaments are a crucifix and six high candlesticks.

well, to start IN that altar is usually the relic of a saint....

ON the altar there is a corporal ( cloth), two candles NEAR the altar, if not on. They DO NOT need to be beeswax- only a living flame ( no electric candles)

nothing else unless Mass is happening!

I seem to remember from my pre-lapsed days that the only requirement was two beeswax candles/ (at least that's what we were told in grade school, though it could be urban legend)
