Martha lived in Bethany and was a friend of Jesus. Martha welcomed Jesus to their home but complained that her sister Mary was not helping her to prepare a meal. Jesus rebuked Martha and commended Mary for choosing "the better portion." On another occasion Martha appealed to Jesus for help when her brother Lazarus had died, and Jesus responded by telling her: "I am the resurrection and the life."

Martha and Mary were the sisters of Lazarus, all three were friends of Jesus Christ, Martha was a very driven person wanting to do all that was traditionally expected of the Hebrew woman of the day, Mary on the other hand let her heart and mind dictate which was more important and meaningful, she would prefer to listen to the unique and inspiring truths of the man she believed was both a man and yet God her "Messiah" her "Rabbi" then wash dishes and prepare food with Martha out of the earshot of her "Lord", so I would say Martha was very "legalistic" following all the traditions and by doing was losing the precious short hours of life she could have spent with her Savior! This gives us all much to speculate when we put earthly tasks above spiritual and above time spent with loved ones.

Martha was the sister to Mary and Lazarus! She was the one who always worried about the "busy" things (feeding, serving, hostessing) as her sister, Mary, would sit at Jesus' feet and listen to His teachings.
Martha was the one who met Jesus when He returned, after being told that Lazarus had died. She told Jesus, that her brother would not have died if Jesus had been there! She also wondered how Jesus could raise her brother as, "surely he is already stinking." He was but, Jesus told lazarus to come forth and Lazarus arose from the tomb!
These three, were frequented by Jesus and His followers, considered to be good friends, of the Lord!

Jesus was a friend of the family of Lazarus. Lazurus' sisters were Mary and Martha. When Lazarus became sick they sent word to Jesus to come heal him. Jesus said; "This sickness will not end in death. No it is for God's glory so that God's Son may be glorified through it." You probably know the story. Jesus went to Bethany, the home of Lazarus, after Lazarus had died and had been in a tomb for 4 days. Jesus told Martha; "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" She replied; "...you are the Christ, the Son of God." Jesus then went to the tomb and said, "Lazarus, come out!" Lazarus then came out, alive, wrapped in grave cloths.

There were two sisters named Mary and Martha. Jesus sometimes stayed at their home when traveling in the region. On one occasion, Jesus was at their home and while Mary was running around trying to fix dinner, Martha was sitting at the feet of Jesus taking in his words.
Mary was upset over this and asked Jesus to say something to her sister but Jesus replied, " You worry about too many things Mary. Your sister has found what is good."
Great story. reminds me not to be worried about too many religious things, (doing things to please God) and be grateful for what he has done for me. When I´m Grateful to God I seem to do more Godly things and less things for God.
Make sense?
