My dad will be starting his radiotherapy treatment next month for 30 days. The doctors say that he'll be receiving the treatment in the morning and can actually go home for the day after the treatment has been administered. I have a one-year-old kid who really loves to play with his grandpa. Is it safe for my kid to hang around my dad whenever he comes home from the hospital after his treatment.?

is ok for your kid to play with your dad, radiotherapy is something just like X-rays, there is no radio-active content on the patient after the therapy has been done.. only that your father will feel a bit heaty hot on the skin and gets sensitive under the sun, ask him to wear long sleeve and sun glasses with a hat if possible... Good Luck!

My uncle had prostate cancer
and was quite the joker in the family.
He took all the chemo, cobalt and
the rest of the stuff and it never really helped.
But he kept his sense of humor throughout
the whole ordeal. I asked him one time
what were some of the effects from the treatment.
He chuckled a bit and said,
that the fatigue wasn't really that bad,
because staying in bed &
being waited on was really nice.
And the mood swings from high & low,
he could deal with that.
But he could never get used to the fact,
that he was always worried,
"What if I glow in the dark?
I won't be able to sleep, the glow will keep me awake."
This has always made me smile.
I hope it helps, you too.

If your dad has cancer then he is in danger from the various colds and viruses often carried by young children. Your child is in no danger from your dad's treatments.

Expect your father to become fatigued as treatments continue and to also possibly have problems with his skin or swallowing, depending on where the radiotherapy is directed. good luck to you both

He will be VERY susceptable to and kind of infections. If you even half way think your son is sick, do NOT let him around your dad. If it is possible to keep your son out of day care it would be could. Your son could carry germs home that may not make him sick, but might make your dad sick.

He will be extremly tired and wont be able to do a lot of physical activy, so just keep in mind that visits may not be able to be as long as normal.
