Just about any career field is helpful but it's better to live in an area where a lot of people speak that language.

it is useful in the engineering and mathematics fields. German is huge when it comes to cars, technology (t-mobile) etc.

Germans still use Deutsch in Germany. So, if you are planning to work in Germany, or to liaise with them, you should try to pickup Deutsch
