DO NOT go to community college if you want to be a medical transcriptionist! I believe the absolute best school in the industry is M-TEC. They were the first school approved by AHDI's approval program. Their curriculum is well rounded and in depth, which more than adequately prepares you to enter the job market upon graduation. They assign each student a specific instructor who follows the student through the entire course. They have online classes in their virtual classroom and teach industry-specific technology, which no other approved school is currently doing. They also have a 100% placement rate of their Premire Program graduates. You are provided with everything you need to train and enter the job market including college-level textbooks, an abundant amount of reference books including the BOS (the industry Bible), and a foot pedal. The only thing you have to acquire on your own is a headset, which you can pick up as cheap as $10 at Wal-Mart!

The top 3 are generally considered to be :
The Andrews School of Medical Transcription
M-Tec
CareerStep
CareerStep costs the least of the 3, I believe, and is partnered with several employers, but really pick any of them, work hard in your studies, and you're likely to land a job.

So many on line schools are of very questionable quality I would recommend looking into community colleges. Most will have the classes in which you can get the skills you need. Community colleges also know where the job market is for the skills they teach. Talk to counselors there for further direction.
