even though you're friendly to them? Okay, I'm a nice guy and I tend to talk to people who seem like they lack in self-esteem. I ask around to know what that person's name is and then when I see him, I greet him by name.

The moron doesn't even seem appreciative of that, instead has a bitter expression on his face.

What's up with some people?

greeting someone you dont know by name isnt nice. and he was just prolly suspicious of what you had heard about him. or just plain creeped out.

You know what? I treat everyone exactly the way I'd like to be treated, and get great results.

Hello; you used the word "moron" just because the person didn't respond the way you wanted?

Maybe you're coming across as totally patronizing and obnoxious because of the way you behave towards those YOU define as different?

Personally, if I was on the receiving end of your "friendly" approaches, I'd be tempted to smack the self-satisfied smirk off of your face.

Overly friendly people are obnoxious and annoying, and if someone I don't know suddenly calls me by my name I get creeped out thinking"what the heck does this stranger want from me????". That's all really creepy. What makes you think these people would want anything to do with a meddler like you???? They don't know you and most importantly, you don't know them OR anything about them or certainly not enough to judge them....Stranger!

There might be a reason he lacks self-esteem. Maybe he trusted someone like you once who was nice to him and he got burned. Now he's skeptical. It may take a while of treating him well before be opens up...if he ever does.

Maybe something is wrong in his life that doesn't have anything to do with you....or maybe he thinks you're a jerk walking around happy all of the time.

Working as a manager of a pizza place and a cashier in retail, I don't think a day goes by where I don't feel like breaking dow because of one snide comment or one rude facial remark, even body language!

I know exactly what you mean. You go out of your way and the general courtesy is not returned. I try to focus on it like this: A selfish person notices someone walk in who's in a rotten mood and thinks they, themselves, did something wrong. A selfless person wonders "What's they're problem?"

I'm not a selfish person.

I know its crazy. I try and treat shy and kind of unpopular people with great respect but they dont treat me the same. I guess they think im going to make fun of them or something.
