1. What is the first day of the week?

2. What is the first day of a week?

I was just wondering if 2 sounds weird to all of you native English speakers and those fluent in English.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks very much.
The confusing thing is that, while 2 is weird as all of you say, it seems ok to say "A week starts with Monday/Sunday,"
instead of saying "The week starts with Monday/Sunday." What are some grammatical explanations for this?

It sounds weird to me. If I'm talking really fast I'd automatically say number 1. But I guess number 2 would work, b/c by saying THE week, you are talking about any week, and every single week starts with Monday. In #2 you are saying A week, which is any week, and all of them start with Monday. So the same thing.

It is much more gramatically correct if you use #1.

well im not native but i think the 1st one is right and the 2nd one is wrong... the second one does sound weird... and for that it means native english speakers do not use the 2nd one.
