i was once spanked like that in public at a gas station, i was three years old, i am now 21 and i still remember that lesson very, very well. i think children should be spanked (not beaten, never slapped). when you spank a child you must make sure they know why they are receiving this negative attention, never ever say "wait till your dad comes home" or something to that effect, the punishment must occur at the time of the crime. (so says my lifespan psychology teacher)

Look, it may not sound PC, but spanking is a quick and easy way to get through to your kids. Time out is a good idea, taking things away is good also. Spanking is best when your child puts him/herself in danger, when the first two tactics didn't get the point across, or when the behavior is deserving of a jolt into reality. I don't have to spank twice for the same behavior. It works! They get the point. There absolutely has to be an "END" and I think spanking is it. Children need to know that if they keep doing the same thing they're not supposed to, they're eventually going to get a spanking. Once they know that, they start to monitor their own behavior. Yes, I was spanked this way- rarely. I spank over the clothes and even that is rare! They KNOW not to do certain things. They know what I expect of them and what they can expect of me. Unfortunately, it's a dying form of discipline. These days, I can't even enjoy a good cup of coffee out, or have a moment of peace at the bank, or have a nice night out to dinner without some crazy monkey children jumping all around and screaming.

Yep, when a spanking is called for pants and panties (we have all girls) come down first. Now a day people (mostly the anti-spanker's) incorrectly call this type of spanking abuse. I don't care what some slap thinks, I'll stick with what works.
The only difference is, we NEVER do this in eye view of anyone else. I want my children focusing on what they did, not who's watching. I really don't care about others opinions on the matter. Granted I am bias, but my daughters behave 10x better then the average child out there. Teachers rave about them, one even jokingly recommended I write a book, lol.
People may disagree with me, that's fine, raise your children how you think is right, and I'll do the same.

I think it is all right to spank a 6 year old girl and to pull her panties down for that. But your mom should have done that in private and not have added the humiliation and embarrassment of your sister watching. Spanking is not a cure-all, but in some situations it provides swift and (as your question shows) memorable punishment.

Heck yes... my mom did, and still would (even though I am 13 XD) if I did something bad enough.... and I think it helped shape me to tell you the truth. I once ran out in front of a truck and my mom grabbed me, yanked me back, hugged me, then pulled down my pants in the parking lot and wacked me so hard... hahaha... well i never jumped out infront of a car I'll tell you that... =D I also never got spanked again, because I knew what my mother would do to me if I ever did anything bad again!
Also the last time my sister got spanked was when she was 6... she cut her own hair..... ♥ now she wont even go near a pair of scissors without permission! My mom would never abuse us, or anything, but if we did something bad enough, we knew the beatings would come down on us!

I hope so. People have come down hard on disciplining your children, and because of it we have a society of unruly, selfish little brats. People mistake spanking for abusing , and theres a big difference. Pulling down your pants and spanking you in front of people is extreme, but spanking kids over their clothes I think is okay. I was spanked as a kid and I'm not the mental nutcase that everyone claims spanking will turn a child into.

I got spanked a lot when I was little, and less when I got older. I stopped getting spanked at 15. My sister was 18 when she got her last spanking, in a public place on the job in front of her manager. And yeah I plan on spanking my children when I decide if I want kids or not. Thats when I good and ready. And when I realize I do I am going to spank them for acting out and not listening esp when not following directions.
I know most people don't like for you to touch their child. But if their child talks to me like an adult, fusing me out, hitting, and carrying on trying to fight. Then yeah I'll spank/fight a thirdteen year old.

I spanked my sons in the olden days, the 1960s and early 1970s for the same reason your Mom spanked you--just to bring them down a notch. It was with my bare hand--3 swats on the bare butt. It was just as hard on me as it was on them and it only happened a few times. Nothing like the razor strap that was commonly used in the 1940s and 1950s.

There is an escalation procedure in my house...spanking being the last resort. We try to reason with the kids. If they don't behave...they could get a time out. If they still don't behave, we take something away from them like a favorite toy. If they still don't behave, they might get a spanking. It's a last resort. Sometimes, even that doesn't seem to help.
If you have a sure fire way to get kids to behave, let me know!
