Hello dear!

Angry with neighbor's dog who woke me up early, I woke up abruptly had bad psychological status and this joke was perfect - I am not angry any more, I am upset!
Well, last night we had some dialog with some friends about the influence the Western world had from Socrates! Look around and you will see Him everywhere: Educational system, Medical systems, rights of men, women, children, financial systems, sciences, ... they all came from the city of Athens and first among them aand all people is Socrates!
How do you attack such great people?
You create Christianity, slaughter whoever does not deny them and brainwash the ones left to the new ideas:
I am nothing! I am sinner! I need a savior!
God did and does all!
Israel is the beloved sons of god and only through them I will go to Paradise!
Etc., etc.!
Thus all the systems and powers go to them and we are happy to be the slaves of god's reps on Earth, thinking is a sin, acceptance of them is a must and will be rewarded after life, etc.!
....

Be God fearing. Do not become an atheist. If you believe that God is watching each & every action of you & sure to reward or punishment as the case may be, you're bound to be greatly disciplined , civilised & satisfied by your own life provided by God. I don't know your age but believe that you're quite young. you have a long life to learn & study so many things including religion and have long way to go. Study Christianity & other religions including Islam too on the internet. There is a very good book on Islam : Minhajul Muslim by Abubakar Aljazairi(688 pages) written very nicely about all aspects of life in berief & the way to pass best possible human life free from all confusions. Many things there are very general but not known to most of young people. Reading will give you answers of many questions particularly about atheism. Why human being has been made the supreme amongst all God's creations is well explained in that book. Study status of women in all prominent religions. I'm sure you will shed the idea of becoming an atheist. If you're not married, I advice you to get married within few months & have very exciting , interesting, fantastic, exhilerating & fully satisfied sweet life. There is no better replacement of marriage, I tell you honestly to have best satisfied life in all respects. Do not think too much on those things which unnecessarily confuse you.
Get yourself medically checked up fully for your self satisfaction at the earliest. Good luck.

People feel this way because they see the bareness of our modern philosophy of scientific materialism, which is untenable. Yet, to jump to some book like the Bible:

"The Holy spirit was drawing me to the Bible and when I read it, it made sense to me, where it hadn't before."

is also absurd. The Bible tells you not to eat shellfish, to give your slave a vacation on Sunday, and murder and enslave non-believers when your up to it. It tells you the world is surrounded by a glass dome with doors that open and let the rain and planets out. It is obviously just a bunch of myths by a primitive people, like so many others.

Instead, use your mind to contemplate what can be, and what life is, what death is, and so on. Or better yet, find a nice guy and fall in love and enjoy all that life has to offer. Take up pottery. Lead a protest against meat eaters or give a dollar to a homeless person. Play a video game. Write a book. Carpe diem and all that stuff. I think I am digressing, but I hope you see what I mean.

I see that there is a person? That is questionable. Has slammed your asking of the question. Christianity has been around longer then Mr. athiest has that is a known fact. Also how fat are you wonder dog? You hide your face so I take it that you would give Freddie Kruger nightmares? How do you answer this in a positive manner when no matter what you say you will be slammed by low life white trash. Yes you the one that lives in a gypsy station wagon. What is that you ask? A mobile home moron. There is no answer other then your own feelings. With morons on the loose it is hard to make a rational decision to your question. I am truly sorry to the Lady. This has carried on far to long with the athiest. Now I will fight back with facts on Christianity.

i'm sure there are converts from all religions to all religions

hope you find some fullfilling answers, and not mere accusations

and when you say "symptoms," i'm hoping your just saying "syptoms" because you can't find another word for it

EDIT
not that i can purely know from a true experience (i was atheist a couple years back when i had doubts, but i'm still christian today), but i think a major symptom of becoming christian is feeling a realization and "knowing" of God. if your stuck in the middle, even if you aren't fully devoted, pray. God may carry you to him. that's what happened to me.

edit
continuing from above, that's what happened to me when i no longer had a willpower for religion

EDIT
sorry for all teh edits, but i keep thinking of things as i read people's answers. if you're really sincere and serious, i would get of R &S and find a different GENERAL (as in all) religion discussion website. R&S tends to be black and white, with little gray or empathy

EDIT
a mental illness? are you really that strongly convinced, and have absolutley no "open mindedness?" as soon as you have any thoughts, you think you're going mental? think more about it

or if you're asking this to mock christianity, once again like some of your answers and other peoples, screw you

I have never been an atheist. I have always believed that there is a higher power (to a degree), until I was under conviction and succumbed to His calling. When I did accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior, I felt like I was floating on air, I had to open my eyes to see if I was still at the alter (which I was). That is when things got better for me {spiritually speaking}, and worse at the same time. I was on fire for my Lord, but Satan wanted me back so bad that things did seem to go bad. When I turned things over and let my Lord have control of my life, and doing what He wanted me to do, THAT is when things got better and life had meaning again.

Symptoms? The desire to be an ignorant follower so I might treat others in ways that are inhumane and immoral by all reason and logic --AND feel self righteous about it!

First, you'll have to choose which version of the thousands you'll choose to follow. Do it this way, write down all your bigotries and then match them with the sect that fits you like a glove.

Twain said it best about faith, "Believin' what you know ain't so." If you can claim to deny the truth then you're on your way I'd assume.

My dad was a hard core atheist and I began following in his footsteps. I believed just as I hear so many say on here, that Christians are weak, silly and need a crutch and escape from reality. When I was 18 I ran away with a boy that I was obsessed with. He was into some weird occultic stuff and I saw some pretty strange things. Most of which a lot of people would just think I was making up if I told them so I'm choosy who I share all the details with. But being faced with supernatural reality I began wondering about God. I came under strong conviction of the Holy Spirit because a lot of people were praying fervently for me at that time. I was at a crucial point in my life and my mom and my sister and some others were praying for me a lot. The Holy spirit was drawing me to the Bible and when I read it, it made sense to me, where it hadn't before. I reached a point where I called my sister and asked her,"If I come home, will you send me to a shrink?" Because I thought I was loosing my mind because I was really believing in God and I had always thought that people who believed in God were crazy. She said yes of course, but I didn't go home just yet and never went to a shrink. I did eventually get myself away from my boyfriend and go home. I kept reading the Bible and put my faith in Christ for salvation. My poor dad was so concerned about me because I was obsessed with reading the Bible (all versions at once and with a Concordance). He came in one day when I was sitting on the floor surrounded by Bibles and gave me a big hug and said " I'm glad you've found something that your so interested in, but please don't read so much of it, it will make you go crazy."My life was totally changed from that point on. At first it was strange, it was almost like I didn't know who I was when I looked in the mirror. When people say that there is a transformation of the heart, I know what they are talking about. It changed the way I thought about everything. I realized that I had believed so many lies and my whole world view changed almost overnight.I hope and pray that you too, are under conviction of the Holy Spirit. I am praying for you.
One last note... I got to see my dad saved and baptized 4 days before he died this May. One of the happiest occasions of my life! God bless!!

I think that even though I did not believe in any gods, I could not really say that there is no change for God to exist.

I was longing for God...... to Him have a personal relationship with me. I had a great void, the kind of that no one else could fill.
I was drawn into His Word, and I found a wonderful non-denominational Christian church.

There was about 3 years of my life that I was "lost".I went through a downward spiral without God.Finally I was tired of spiraling downward.
I called out to God in prayer and he heard and answered me.
Things have not always bean "peachy".There have been times of testing that were very difficult, but I wasn't alone anymore.God was there to comfort, encourage and strengthen me.
He is always there to help us through life.He is willing to help carry us when we are too tired to walk.
