quite a few Russians speak English, it's a compulsory subject at school (well, the quality of teaching isn't that good but everyone knows "yes", "no", "how do you do" and etc)
even if you know NOTHING in Russian, Russians are generally very hospitable and friendly :D

A lot more Russians speak English that you can imagine, especially young people...
but any efforts to speak Russian would be appreciated...
Just keep you eyes open, because the street crime is a big, big problem there, not mentioning the corruption on every level.

I have relatives in Ukrania and Russia, and they speak English fairly well.
They could tell you more. They come here, to Canada ane the USA, but I've never been there.
When they make a toast, it sounds just like "Spit-on-you!" ;-)

the only Russian that i speak it Vodka.
but if they don't like the way you talk, they will definitely love the way you look.

They will be fascinated by the manner in which you speak, but if they don't understand English, it won't make much difference anyway.
