Okay, on my spanish assignment, I'm supposed to find the literal meanings of several cities/states named in Spanish (Las Angeles, Nevada, exc.). the literal meaning beong like Las Angeles=The Angels. Or Las Vegas is = Fertile Lowlands. Can someone give me links where I can get the answers?

Florida: full of flowers (femenine adjective)
Texas: tiles (in a roof). In present-day Spanish: "Tejas"
Colorado: red
Los Álamos: the poplars (tree)
Sacramento: sacrament
San Antonio: saint Anthony, and all the "san (francisco, diego, josé...)" you can find
Las Cruces (New Mexico): the crosses
Amarillo (Texas): yellow
Palos Verdes: Green sticks
Alcatraz: Pelican
Boca Raton (Florida): mouth of mouse
Cape Canaveral (Florida): from "cañaveral," canebrake.
El Paso (Texas): "passage."
Fresno (California): "ash tree."
La Brea (California): "tar."
Los Gatos (California): "cats."
Montana: from "montaña," mountain.
Santa Fe (New Mexico): "holy faith."

First of all, your grammar is incorrect in your cities. It is Los Angeles. Too many Americans say it like las Angles but it is really Los angeles. Santo Domingo= saint domingo
Buenos Aires, Argentina= good airs
Puerto Rico= rich port
Costa Rica= rich coast
republica dominicana= dominican republic
Also san is another way of expressing saint. So San Francisco is saint Francisco. Nevada literally means snowfall.

Los angeles - The angels
Nevada - A mountain with snow on top/or smth with snow on top

I'm Uruguayan and the accents and pronunciation is distinctive among them .Argentinian and Uruguayan Spanish are very identical however Argentinian tone is distinctive and a few distinctive grammar ,I uncover it okay to talk to a Mexican however to any one from Spain I haven't any suggestion find out how to realise what they are saying in any respect
