ok... so this is the first time for me. i already have two dresses and if possible i'd really just like to wear one of these instead of buying a new one. i'd prefer to wear the black dress w/ a shaw, and so would my boyfriend, but if i have to i can wear the blue. just please let me know if they're suitable for the ball... thanks!

My goodness yes! both are beautiful but I personally like the black one better. Some jewelry would be nice.

Either would be suitable, but the blue one would be in better taste. While the black dress looks good, it is a little too revealing for the Marine Corps Ball

The black dress is very flirty but classy at the same time that's the one I'd wear. The blue one seems a little more prom - which is fine. But out of the two I'd say black.

Though both dresses are beautiful they convey two different things.One is more reserved and whimsical while the other is edgey and revealing.I think its up to which of the 2 best represents your personality or what kind of image you are trying to convey.
I couldn't really give you an honest answer because truthfully I don't know you and YOU will make the dress the dress will not make you...

Always wear a formal gown to a military ball. The blue is beautiful and classic. Better made a good impression on your boyfriend's superiors.

As previously stated, the black dress will send a message that I would hope you really don't want to send. The shawl won't help because before the end of the night, you'll be tired of dealing with it and won't be wearing it.
Go with the blue one. And have fun!

When it comes to formal Military Events-err on the side of classy and conservative. Remember-your boyfriends boss will most likely be there and the politics behind these events can be very humbling. Learn to play the game right and it will do wonders for his career. Military networking and politics does play to the spouse/girlfriend as well. You want to make the right connections and the right impression. Your actions are remembered.

Go with the black one. Not only does it look better, but the colors on this one will accent your boyfriends dress blues as well.

This is a formal Ball, ALWAYS go with the classy look as opposed to the sexy. Too many women choose the sexy and end up looking, ummmm..........inappropriate.--Just feeds into the stigma that's been established.
And Marine Corps is ALWAYS capitalized. ;) Have fun, but be dignified---again, stigma comes into play. ;)
