I scarcely know where to start. If Gene Roddenberry had been making the decisions, I'm almost certain that he would not have had peace and harmony between the two groups. I really believe that he would have had the rebels continue wearing the style they initially wore, making a visual separation. They would be forced to work together but, after the crisis was over, would resume their hostilities. It would have added an element of danger and unpredictability.
If a half-Klingon woman is ashamed of that, why doesn't she style her hair to disguise the forehead? Why does she do so much to emphasize that part of her?
They're in unexplored territory, yet every civilization that I witnessed on the series had no problems with speech or interacting with the crew.
The featherheaded cook should have been recast.
Remember the child/woman at the start? She seemed to become inconvenient, so they dumped her.
The series never seemed to have a center or a personality all its own. The female Borg seemed like a try for the male audience; put Jeri Ryan in a bodysuit. It doesn't matter that she looks absolutely unlike any Borg we saw before. I know they made up some sort of excuse, but it comes down to them wanting to have an outer space bimbo to capture the guys' attention.
Kate Mulgrew was second choice for captain, getting the role because Genevieve Bujold couldn't handle the rapid shooting schedule. Kate simply wasn't a strong enough personality to carry this off; and, she BLEATS! My mom asked, "Does she always talk like that? She sounds like a sheep!" No, she didn't speak like that before this role. It was a bad choice, if she did choose to speak in that fashion.
I could go on for a very long time. I do think that "Deep Space Nine" was a much better series. Some parts of "Enterprise" are~well~not bad. But, "Voyager" looks like severely watered-down Trek.

Gene Roddenberry was using the show as a way to analyse Earth societies by taking traits of our societies and giving them (in an exagerated way) to the 'aliens'. For example, the 'profit at all costs' culture of the capita... sorry the Ferengi.
Although Voyager was based on his idea, it was no longer him in charge.
Plus, they kept re-hashing old plots. We played a game of 'trying to guess the remake'. Take the plot of a Voyager show and try to find out (in the original series and in TBG) where the same ideas were used before.
New Aliens? same problems (maybe disguised a bit).

Well i`d have to say that i personally never cared for this show. Even when it comes on the "SPIKE TV" i turn the channel. when it first came back out on TV, since it has been off the air for a couple of years now, i tried to watch it, and realized the reason why it was not so successful, because it was a little boring. when it first aired in the later 90`s, people was moving on from the 1980`s and early 90`s sci-fi TV-sitcoms.like for example growing up as kid in the late 80`s and early 90`s all of the TV-shows had some type of sci-fi ness to it, knight rider, outta of this world, small wonders, my secret identity, quantum leap, and star trek the next generation etc. Now i always have loved Star-trek the next generation, especially as a kid in the late 80`s, and even now i still will watch it from time to time when it is on the Spike or G4 channel.but when it when off of the air in 1994, TV started coming out with all of these so called Star-trek spin off`s. like before Star- trek Voyager, it was Star-trek Deep space 9 and that did not do so well, and then they came out with another stark-trek show etc, none were successful like the original strek-trek(in the 1960`s) and star-trek the next generation(1987-1994). to be honest with u if star trek voyager would have not came back out on tv, i would not even have remembered the show. so to answer your question, when the show came out it was a little out of style, meaning alot of people had wanted to see something else new. if u notice now all that they show on tv is reality shows, they get the most ratings.

Sorry to all the complainers but I liked Voyager, much more than TNG, I couldn't stand Picard.
I liked Janeway, unlike every other Trek Captain she had no problem saying "full phasers.....FIRE".
All the other Captains would want to negotiate, she would just blast everybody.
