It could be one or a combination of reasons.
a) He is uncomfortable with anyone "invading" his personal space. --- Sit down slightly further away on the bench/seats.
b) He is shy and does not know how to approach a girl etc. He may even like you. --- Just ask him if he likes you and would like to go out with you.
c) He does not like you. --- You must ask him to determine if he likes you or not.
d) (This is not nice) He may think you smell, and therefore wants to move away because of that.

It depends how far he moves away.
If you are actually touching and he moves so you just aren't quite touching, then that's not a bad sign. It just means that he doesn't want you to think he's getting off on the contact.
If he moves so that there are more than 6 inches between you, then either he's not interested, or he is trying to hide that he is interested from the others who are around. Either way, not a fantastic sign...

Good answer creepy old guy. if he moves away there could be a couple of reasons.
1. he doesn't like you
2. you smell bad
3. he doesn't like who sitting around him
He probably doesn't like you though, but give him space, and see if things work themselves out.
