I noticed some male and female security guards/police officers have a big pudgy frame but aren't exactly built to run fast or be nimble, such as chasing suspects that jump over walls, fences, etc.I visited someone in a prison and noticed that the officers there were bulky/big with a large gut but still intimidating...they can probably hold someone in a headlock with no problems, but it would probably be more difficult for them to chase after suspects than the more toned/agile officer.I was wondering if you work in that industry:what specific physical requirements do they look for in being a security guard or police officer and whether they must be fit enough and a speedy runner and why it isn't necessary for some to be a healthy body weight/shape?? but the paramedics I've seen, who don't have to pursue criminals on foot chases or need to restrain people with physical power, usually have well-built bodies?! have you noticed this? no links.give your personal experiences/opinions??? thanks.

mostly because to be a security guard there is pretty much no physical requirements. for cops after they are done in the academy they dont have to maintain their physical fitness. And to become a cop you have to go through an excruciating recruitment process that MOST people fail, so whats a fat person when they are DQing almost everyone they need anyone that will pass their requirements.

No the police are not a militia. The closest thing to a modern militia is the National Guard. Even states like CA have had the CA State militia, but is now called the CA State military reserve. The militia was basically a group of armed citizens that got together to defend their territory. This obviously can't happen in modern times, so the National Guard full fills that role. The police's job is law enforcement for the citizens, although they do some protection work, preventing takeover from a another group is a role for the military.

It's pretty much the "good ole' boy" system in the police force. You've heard all the donut jokes. These guys sit in their cars most of their time on duty. As for needing to chase a suspect, well they have young officers that are still in working shape do that. If it hits the fan they call for a lot of back up. They don't fool around, they will just tazer you and take you down. Their bulk is useful. They don't have to be agile on their feet, just brutally violent.

And as for the correction officers you mentioned. They are a step below the average street cop. You are talking about semi-literate guys, most of which have serious psychological problems. Corrections officers tend to come in two sizes, ultra skinny dork, and morbidly obese. And where are the prisoners going to run? These Corrections officers have orders to shoot any prisoner that attempts to escape.

Because were old for one reason. I don't venture past my realm. But you are right. But like all things in life we need to look around everywhere. I have seen over weight " any bodies", any where all ages. Out of shape people cross all lines of work place people. What happens is that we just grow older, fatter, shorter, slower, in other words " a senior. "
But this Officer has 4 martial arts levels.
Looks can be deceiving.

Police officers and security guards are plump because they get a lot of money from people to feed their bellies making them unable to run after the scalawags.

People in general are over weight these days. Too much junk food and not enough excercise.
