Well, the old saying "A dogs mouth is cleaner than humans", isnt 100% true. This came about because a human is more likely to give you a type of bacteria that will harm you than a dog would. Not because a dog has less bacteria, but mainly because most of the bacteria in a dogs mouth prefers a dog rather than a human (called host or species specific). You lift up a dogs mouth and may see an overgrowth of tartar and gingivitis, and there is no doubt that the dog has more bacteria in his mouth than yours, but it comes down to if he licks you, most likely you will be fine compared to the type of bacteria in another humans mouth.

I love going to this site: about.com. You can find anything imaginable there. The one link I gave you is about how a 5th grader doing a project for school actually proved that a cat's mouth was cleaner! Have fun. And you'll find detailed links underneath where you can get the exact makeup of the enzymes, bacteria, and whatever, in a dog's mouth that have been scientifically analyzed and all that.

Of course it's true. Like when my Golden Retriever spots a cat turd when we're out for a walk and gobbles it up before I can pull her back.

first talk to a HUMAN dentist for information, then talk to a veteranarian. Both will give you the info you need. Better to site these kind of sources in your report than some impersonal website.
